Seminar "Applying corporate management models to the management of public service units" at VNU - UEB

In the morning of January 18, 2024, a survey team from the Ministry of Home Affairs led by the Institute of State Organizational Sciences conducted a meeting and discussion with UEB on the experience of applying corporate management models to the management of public service units at the university.



Attending the seminar, from the Ministry of Home Affairs, there were Mr. Vu Xuan Thanh, Deputy Director of the Institute of State Organizational Sciences, along with leaders and officials of the Institute of State Organizational Sciences, the Organization - Personnel Department, and the expert team conducting the survey. Welcoming and working with the team were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Truc Le - Party Secretary, Chairman of the University Council, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Trung Thanh - Rector, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Anh Thu - Vice Rector, Dr. Pham Minh Tuan - Vice Rector, Dr. Hoang Khac Lich - Vice Chairman of the University Council, Head of the Human Resources Office; along with leaders of the Offices, Faculties, and Institutes of the university.

Overview of the seminar

At the seminar, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Truc Le - Party Secretary, Chairman of the University Council informed the survey team about the results of implementing management solutions at VNU – UEB.

Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Truc Le, Party Secretary and Chairman of the University Council, reported on the results of applying business management models at the university.

UEB  is an autonomous organization, comprising 06 specialized Faculties/Institutes and 01 International Training and Education Center, responsible for implementing joint training programs awarded by partners. The Faculties and Institutes of the university develop in a diverse specialized direction, focusing on macroeconomic research, with a faculty team of more than 70% holding doctoral degrees and being intensively trained in advanced countries.

With its current advantages, UEB has expanded its cooperation network with leading partners and professors, contributing to joint research and development. The university's research activities are international, integrating many experiences and lessons from developed countries. Therefore, recently, the university has made many important policy contributions and advice to the Parliament and Government, receiving high state honors and awards.

Following the philosophy of training students to become global citizens, the University organizes a variety of student and faculty exchange activities with partners both domestic and international, creating an international and professional learning and working environment. In this journey, UEB has implemented many important projects such as a one-stop service system for students, improving the student success rate upon graduation and employment.

The survey team listened and engaged in discussions with the university's leadership representatives.
Associate Professor Dr. Le Trung Thanh, the university's president, attended and participated in discussions at the seminar.

Regarding the policy for staff, faculty, and workers, the university has conducted many internal development activities, strongly built and implemented work management software linked to performance evaluation. Regarding income policy, the university has established flexible salary regulations linked to monthly performance evaluation, personalizing the responsibility and quantity of labor products of staff. For the university's financial model, the profit is used for reinvestment, operating financial mechanisms and policies according to the regulations of the Ministry of Finance on the spirit of being proactive, preparing to lead.

Besides the achievements, the application of management solutions at the university still faces many communication difficulties, directing the consciousness of responsibility of staff, improving labor productivity among teams, faculty, and workers. The university hopes to access more new, advanced, and state-regulated management models and solutions to study and apply in the coming years.

Mr. Vu Xuan Thanh, Deputy Director of the Institute of State Organizational Sciences, Ministry of Home Affairs, highly appreciated the dynamism of the VNU University of Economics and Business in the recent period.

On behalf of the survey team, Mr. Vu Xuan Thanh, Deputy Director of the Institute of State Organizational Sciences, Ministry of Home Affairs, exchanged views and expressed his impression of the results achieved in implementing modern management solutions at the university. He particularly noted the role of the university's leadership in their efforts to promote changes in management towards a lean, efficient, united structure, and in gathering outstanding individuals. Mr. Thanh expressed his confidence in the university's development, continuing its mission to improve quality and resources in education and scientific research with the principle of doing things correctly and effectively, meeting the needs of society and the country.
