A ceremony to announce the appointment of Rector of the University of Economics and Business - VNU in the 2011 - 2016 term

On March 15th, Assoc.Prof.PhD. Nguyen Hong Son was appointed as rector in a ceremony hosted by the University of Economics and Business in the 2011 - 2016 term.


The ceremony sees the attendance of Heather Riddell - New Zealand Ambassador, Christopher W. Hodges, Chancellor of Culture and Information - US Embassy, Matsunaga Masae, Deputy Representative JICA; Prof. Micheal Hoey, Vice President and Prof. Tom Cannon - Liverpool University; Nguyen Van Vui, Deputy Director Department of Personnel - Ministry of Education and Training; and Prof.Dr. Nguyen Xuan Thang, a Vietnam Central Communist Party Member and Deputy Director of the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences. The ceremony also sees the attendance of many other guests who come from the ministries, research institutes, universities, organizations and businesses both domestic and overseas as partners of the University of Economics and Business.

Present at the ceremony from the side of the Hanoi based Vietnam National University were Prof.Dr. Mai Trong Nhuan - President, Vice presidents and leaders of functional departments and agents. A big number of lecturers, staffs and students of the University of Economics and Business also attended this significant event.

Prof.Dr Mai Trong Nhuan offered the Decision appointing Assoc.Prof.PhD. Nguyen Hong Son as Rector of the University of Economics and Business. He took this opportunity to encourage the new rector to flourish the achievements that the School has gained and focus on three important tasks: 1) continuating the implementation of the School’s strategic goal to become a highly prestigious university with internationally and regionally accredited academic programs based on the basic, social and humanitarian sciences that have been established in the Hanoi based Vietnam National University; 2) Developing a model of research university; 3) Developing a model of comprehensive collaboration and circulation within the Hanoi based Vietnam National University that makes the best use of the University’s available resources and strength of multi-sectored academic programs to achieve international standards.

Assoc.Prof.PhD. Nguyen Hong Son expressed his heart-felt thanks to the leaders of the Ministry of Education and Training, Hanoi City’s Communist Party Committee, and Hanoi based Vietnam National University for having trusted in and supported him. He strongly believed tha the School’s Party Committee, Directorial Board, lecturers, staffs and students would make best efforts to achieve the laid out goals.

Assoc.Prof.PhD. Phung Xuan Nha, Vice President of the VNU and former rector of the School in the 2007-2011 term warmly congratulated the new rector Assoc.Prof.PhD. Nguyen Hong Son. He expressed the hope that the new rector would perform his duties excellently in leading the School.

On behalf of the lecturers, staffs and students, Assoc.Prof.PhD. Nguyen Xuan Thien - President of the School’s Trade Union congratulated the new rector. He and the rest team at the School looked forwards to the opportunities to assist Assoc.Prof.PhD. Nguyen Hong Son in bringing the School up to a new height.

New Zealand Ambassador Heather Riddell congratulated A/Prof.Dr Nguyen Hong Son and stressed that she look forwards to the opportunities to profile and enhance the relationships with the School in its mission to train high quality human resources in the fields of economics, management and business administration.

Prof.Dr Nguyen Xuan Thang who is a Vietnam Central Communist Party member, Vice President of the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences and was a former student who had completed the First BA Training Course conducted by the Faculty of Political Economics which the School originated from expressed he was very happy with the School’s progresses after he had congratulated A/Prof.Dr Nguyen Hong Son on this occasion. He expected Son would not only link the School and the Vietnam Institute of Economics, Vietnam Institute of Economics and Business which had made great contribution to the development of the Faculty of Political Economics but also other institutes under the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences to create a research network nationwide. As a former colleague who has known A/Prof.Dr Nguyen Hong Son along time before he moved to the School in 2007, Prof.Dr Nguyen Xuan Thang was no doubt that the new rector would absolutely perform his duties excellently.

On behalf of the economic groups and businesses as partners of the School, Dr. Quach Manh Hao, Vice General Director of Thang Long Securities Company affirmed he would assist Assoc.Prof.PhD. Nguyen Hong Son in implementing the strategies and plans he laid out. He was willing to go on working with the School and become a link between his business and the School in creating human values.

Prof. Micheal Hoey, Vice Director and Prof. Tom Cannon from the Liverpool University just arrived in time to congratulate the new rector. They were very pleased to see the growing collaboration between the University of Economic and Business and the Liverpool. They considered their participation in the School’s event a privilege.

Many other participants attended the event were invited to offer flowers to Assoc.Prof.PhD. Nguyen Hong Son.

Before the ceremony was closed, Assoc.Prof.PhD. Nguyen Hong Son again had thanked the Hanoi based Vietnam National University leaders, partners and friends for their attendance and stressed that all the support and encouragement will help the School and himself in advancing closer to its set goal.
