GPAC 2010 Greetings from UEB Rector - Prof. Phung Xuan Nha

Welcome to the GPAC 2010 meeting in University of Economics and Business (UEB) - Vietnam National University, Hanoi.

I would like to take this opportunity to express our sincere thanks to Professor Harou Shimada, Chiba University of Commerce and Professor Min Sang - Kee for for initiating almost two decades ago the brilliant idea of bringing students from different countries together for academic and cultural exchange. The history and significance of GPAC brought generations of students from Japan, Korea, China, Taiwan, Vietnam wonderful memories in their student life. This is a great opportunity for students of different backgrounds, cultures, knowledge and experience to meet together, discuss together and share with each other about common issues in Asia.

It is our great honor to be the third time participating and the first time hosting the GPAC meeting. We are happy to welcome all professors, students and friends from Chiba University of Commerce, Keio University, Meio University, Seoul National University, and National Chengchi University, whom our faculty and students spent a great time together in Tokyo last summer. This year, we expect 20 professors and 150 students from Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and Vietnam will get together and discuss about topics linked with the theme “The road to the recovery and development of Asia”

With the role of the host university, UEB has prepared for GPAC for a long time. We and our students have spent months to arrange not only the agenda of forthcoming discussions but also the schedule as well as facilities, accommodations, conference rooms, food and other logistics.

The global economic environment has changed somewhat in a better direction than last year, the economy in some countries and areas still has to suffer the consequences of financial crisis in 2007. With the purposes of reflecting matters emerging in the world economy, GPAC 2010 will continue to discuss about related topics and give some recommendations to solve new problems at present.

Like GPAC 2009, GPAC 2010 also features a variety of activities aimed at promoting friendship among the participants, including sports, games and sight seeing, a unique chance to interact with students from different parts of Asia. It helps Asian students deepen their knowledge background and shape the future of their own world.

As this is the first time for many professors and students to visit Vietnam. We hope that GPAC 2010 will not only bring our neighboring friends good opportunity to enjoy GPAC but also good time to discover Hanoi and Vietnam.
