On 1st September 2011, VNU - University of Economics and Business organized a graduation ceremony at 19 Le Thanh Tong, Hanoi for the Master Program in Public Management
The Master Program was a joint training by the UEB and Uppsala University. Thirty seven graduates were awarded their masters.
The ceremony was attended by a number of guests including: Ms. Marie Ottoson - Minister, Deputy Head of Mission, Embassy of Sweden, Country Director of SIDA; Mr. Henrik Gorbow - Ambassador, Political and Trade Section; Prof. Anders Hallberg - Chancellor of Uppsala University; Prof.Dr.Sc. Vu Minh Giang - VNU Vice President; Assoc. Prof. PhD. Nguyen Hong Son - UEB Rector. In addition the ceremony was attended by many distinguished guests, including lecturers of the two universities and the 37 new masters.
After greeting the new masters, Assoc.Prof.PhD. Nguyen Hong Son congratulated the first intake of Master Program of Public Management - a joint training program of the VNU - UEB and Uppsala University. Looking back over the two years of implementation Assoc.Prof.PhD. Nguyen Hong Son said “The program has received the enthusiastic support of many organizations and units of Vietnam and Sweden, including the Embassy of Sweden, SIDA organization, Sipu International and Vietnam National University, Hanoi. On behalf of UEB management board, I would like to send my deepest gratitude to the leaders of all the above organizations for their effective facilitation of the initial success of the MPPM program. We are proud to provide learners with the latest world knowledge of public management and to equip them with professional leadership skills in the public sector. This initial success has affirmed the accurate direction of VNU - University of Economics and Business in its progress to nurture and provide highly qualified human resources for the society”… Assoc.Prof.PhD. Nguyen Hong Son went on to say that he expected that UEB alumni would continue to keep in touch with one another and give their best efforts to ensure a close cooperation for the comprehensive development of UEB in particular and of VNU in general.
At the ceremony, Prof. Anders Hallberg - Chancellor of Uppsala University also congratulated the new masters. “The MPPM program was created in order to share between cultures and countries the long-standing tradition of civil service. The program has been designed not only to teach you how to fulfill your duties as civil servants by developing and improving professional skills, but also to instill a sense of social and civil leadership, responsibility and steadfastness and to inspire your future work. It is my hope that as you graduate from this program, you are willing to share with others what you have learned. For more than 500 years, our university has been a proud host to students and scholars from all over the world. The joint Master Program of Public Management created by VNU - UEB and Uppsala University is a testimony to the international cooperation that our institutions are committed to. You, dear graduates, are part of that effort.”
Supporting the congratulations, Ms. Marie Ottoson and Prof.Dr.Sc. Vu Minh Giang also congratulated and recognized the positive effort of all coordinators, lecturers and staff as well as the support of the organizations of the two countriesn contributing to the program. "The distinct feature of this program is the prestigious partner, which is Uppsala University. Uppsala University has a history of over 500 years and has a world ranking of 62/100.. It is also gives great pleasure to the VNU leaders that intake 2 of the program has been assigned by the Party Central Committee the task of nurturing potential leaders for the Party and State under Project 165. In addition, intake 4 was selected to train officials for the National Committee for Ethnic Minorities within the framework of poverty reduction projects, sponsored by the Republic of Ireland. This has proved that the program has been recognized by strict quality appraisal to take the important duty in training potential officials for State", Prof.Dr.Sc. Vu Minh Giang emphasized.
Speaking on behalf of the 37 new masters, Mr. Bui Thai Quang expressed his gratitude to the professors from Sweden and Vietnam as well as the coordinating staff of the program. With the knowledge attained in the master’s Course, the graduates would make their own progress in their future work and study. The new masters will always be proud of their participation in the MPPM course which for them was of great significance.

After the graduation ceremony, UEB and UU leaders have signed an agreement on exclusive contract to deliver the Master Program in Public Management in Vietnam.
