The conference attracted many of the world’s prestigious scientists
On November 15, 2019, VNU University of Economics and Business (UEB) cooperated with Springer Publishing House to organize the 1st International Conference on Economics, Development and Sustainability (EDESUS 2019) with the theme: "Global changes and sustainable development for emerging economies in Asia".
Attending the conference were leaders of agencies, research institutes, universities in Hanoi; leaders, officers, lecturers, and students of UEB. In particular, the conference also attracted leading scientists, managers, policy makers and well-known experts in climate change from North America and Asia.
From Springer Publishing House, there were Mr. Luc Hens - Editor-in-chief, along with scientists, experts in the field of global change, climate change, green economy. From UEB there were Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Truc Le - Rector; Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Anh Thu - Vice Rector; Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen An Thinh - Vice Dean of Faculty of Development Economics, as well as lecturers and students of the University to attend the seminar.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Truc Le emphasized: "This is the first in a series of conferences on Economics, Development and Sustainability (EDESUS) that UEB will organize annually. The theme of the conference is related to global changes and sustainable development in Vietnam and other emerging economies Asia-wide. Broader topics will also be covered, such as economics and business, development and sustainability. The 2019 EDESUS Conference Proceedings published by Springer Publishing Company will include articles on global changes and sustainable development both in Vietnam and other Asian countries."
"The conference was very timely, at a time when countries needed appropriate policies to deal with environmental and sustainability issues," said Mr. Luc Hens, “Presentations at the conference will bring new perspectives and new approaches to solve urgent issues. I hope that cooperation between Springer and UEB will continue to develop in the upcoming time."

The conference was divided into 7 sessions: 2 plenary sessions and 5 parallel sessions, focusing on 3 main topics: (1) Economics and business: focusing on economic theories, macroeconomic policies, quality and productivity issues, policies and current situations of economic development of industries and enterprises, international business and economics, business administration, banking and finance, knowledge economy, innovative entrepreneurship. (2) Development and sustainability: development policies, sustainable science, policies and laws relating to sustainable development, green growth, challenges relating to sustainable development, integrated approaches to sustainable development, quantifying sustainability, tools for sustainable development, education for sustainable development, sustainable tourism. (3) Resources and global change: research on the use of natural resources, human resources, culture and heritages, land and property markets, social changes, globalization, urbanization, environmental pollution and conflict, natural disasters and climate change, non-traditional security issues, area studies, remote sensing - GIS and spatial planning.

Each sessions was attended by prestigious professors from North America, Europe, China, as well as students from the faculty of Development Economics. The topics of each sessions revolved around green economy and sustainable development.

The conference is expected to be a bridge between students, graduate students, lecturers, scientists of UEB and foreign scientists and partners. Hence, it will open many opportunities for studying aboard, academic exchange, seminars, and international publication. Following the 1st International Conference will be the 2nd Conference scheduled to be held in 2020 with the theme "Sustainability of the Greater Mekong Sub-region".
