Member of Vietnam Financial Literacy Network of University of Economics & Business participated in Conference on empowering Financial Consumer Protection in Digital Age by OECD and Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM)

Continuing accept the invitation of OECD, Dr. Dinh Thi Thanh Van, Associate Dean of Banking and Finance Faculty, Leader of Vietnam Financial Literacy Network had attended Conference on empowering Financial Consumer Protection in Digital Age in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on 11th - 12th December, 2019.


OECD stands for Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development, was established in 1961 on the basis of the European Economic Co-operation Organization (OEEC) with 20 founding members including developed countries in the world such as US, Japan, Britain, Germany ... The original goal of the OECD was to build strong economies in member countries, promote and improve the efficiency of markets, expanding free trade and contributing to the development of economy in industrial countries. In recent years, OECD has expanded its scope of activities, sharing research results and development experiences for developing countries and economies transitioning to market economies; paying great attention to areas of financial inclusion, financial literacy, fintech and consumer protection.

The Conference was co-organized by the Central Bank of Malaysia (BNM) and the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) with the goal of providing a forum to discuss good practices around the world to empower for customers with financial education and consumer protection in a digital age. The conference focused on discussing the development trend of financial technology in the Asia-Pacific region and national policy responses, published the latest OECD research report on cryptographic assets and assessments of customer attitudes, practices and experience in digital transactions, with suggestion and experience of policy makers in Asian countries. Attending the workshop were more than 200 delegates from 15 countries.

Dr. Dinh Thi Thanh Van was invited to present at the morning of the seminar on Some Experiences of Financial Education in Vietnam. Presentation of Dr. Van focused on sharing the comprehensive financial inclusion situation and fintech in Vietnam, offering some solutions in financial education for students and employees through comics, board games, and simulated online learning, or collaborate with fintech companies to offer technology solutions to financial consumers by Research Team of Vietnam Financial Literacy Network of University of Economics & Business. Vietnam Financial Literacy Network is a financial literacy research and training group was founded by trainers and activists in Vietnam in 2015.

Presentation of Dr. Van has received many questions and appreciation from the guests attending the Confernce. Participants from countries such as Cambodia, Laos, Vanuatu, Hong Kong ... had many questions about the curriculum and the tools used in the group's financial education to study and apply in their countries.

This is the second time the Organization for Economic Development Co-operation (OECD) invites Dr. Van to share her experience on financial education in the Conference after the OECD Conference in conjunction with the Central Bank of Cambodia in November 2019. This shows that the research and financial teaching methods of the research team at the University of Economics & Business are well appreciated by experts in the field with spreading. Attending OECD Conference is an opportunity for lecturers from the University of Economics & Business to meet and work with leading experts in financial education around the world and promote the activities of Vietnam Financial Literacy Network of the University of Economics & Business that are widely spread in the international community in the near future.
