Field trip in Quang Binh Province and regular meeting of 2013-2014 academic year

From 16th to 18th July 2014, the VNU University of Economics and Business delegation led by Rector Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Hong Son have visited and studied the socio-economic development in Quang Binh province.


Within the framework of the trip, the VNU-UEB also organized an extended regular meeting of 2013-2014 academic year with the presence of the managing board and leaders of UEB’s faculties, offices, centers and trade union organizations.

At the meeting, participants have discussed and contributed their comments to finalize the draft review report of 2013-2014 academic year, the task plan in the last six months of 2014 and the whole year 2015 which will be presented at the UEB Staff Conference scheduled at the end of coming August.

The participants focused on identifying the achievements and the remains in the academic year 2013-2014, the causes and solutions to overcome those limitations; also analyzing the opportunities and challenges that the university has to face; and identifying the key tasks which need to be done in the next school year. Accordingly, each UEB's unit will develop its detailed plan in the last 6 months of 2014 and the whole year of 2015.

The VNU-UEB delegation paid a work visit to Quang Binh People’s Committee and field trips to several communes in the province. Receiving the delegations were Mr. Nguyen Huu Hoai, Chairman of Quang Binh People’s Committee and representatives of the local authorities.

Speaking at the meeting,  the VNU-UEB's leaders provided a brief introduction of the university, which emphasized the potentials, strengths of the university in the areas of training, research, policy consultancy and other services. The UEB Rector, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Hong Son emphasized “Currently, the UEB has been conducting research collaboration projects with several provinces such as Ha Nam, Ninh Binh and Dak Nong. Quang Binh has lots of natural advantages and should be sustainably exploited, therefore, the role of human resources is really important.” “The UEB has sufficient resources, and practical experience to assist Quang Binh in training, capacity building of the provincial leadership at all levels. The university is also ready to coordinates to study and solve existing issues of the province such as climate change, hunger eradication and poverty reduction, investment cooperation, regional integration etc.”, he affirmed.
On behalf of Quang Binh People’s Committee, Mr. Nguyen Huu Hoai who is the Chairman ofhighly appreciated the VNU-UEB for the attention. He made brief introduction about the state of local socio- economic development as well as the potentials and strengths of the province. He said that Quang Binh province had favorable natural conditions for developing tourism and services. However, human resources are still insufficient, that prevents them from exploiting local potentiality. He expressed his desire that UEB would support the province in research, policy consultancy and training high-quality human resources, especially in the field of tourism, business management to meet the requirements of socio- economic development.

The meeting was held in a very open atmosphere and promised to open up new opportunities for collaboration between the VNU-UEB and Quang Binh province.
This field trip provided the VNU-UEB’s staffs and faculties with much data to support their researching and teaching activities; it also helped to affirm the desire of the University’s leaders of expanding collaboration with locals in order to make positive contributions to the socio-economic development of the provinces themselves and the country as well.
