The 3rd Asian Universities Forum

The UEB Rector Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Hong Son delivers a presentation at the forum
On two days 21st - 22nd May 2014, as assigned by VNU President, the UEB Rector Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Hong Son has attended at the third Asian Universities Forum in Kazakhstan.


Joining the UEB Rector was Associate Dean of UEB’s Faculty of Development Economics Dr. Nguyen Quoc Viet.

Under the theme “Eurasian diversity and the role of universities for sustainable development”, the 3rd forum brought together more than 200 participants who are leaders of universities in Europe, Asia as Britain, Germany, France, Russia, SNG, Czechoslovakia, Turkey, Jordan, Japan, South Korea, China, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Myanmar and Vietnam. In particular, the 3rd Asian Universities Forum is be held within the frames of VII Astana Economic Forum and celebration of 80th anniversary of al-Farabi Kazakh National University, with the participation of leading universities of Eurasian region.

At the plenary session, UEB Rector Nguyen Hong Son has delivered a presentation highlighted the traditional value and role of universities, especially research-oriented universities, include research, training and administration in setting the goal of sustainable development on the aspect of economic development, environmental protection and social equity. In the context that Vietnam is actively implementing sustainable development policies and strategies, VNU and the VNU-UEB have been striving for core values, carrying out specific activities to ensure sustainable development for the country. Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Hong Son finished the presentation by proposing some cooperation activities for Eurasian universities to strengthen the role of universities in sustainable development.

The speech by UEB Rector has received the high appreciation from the speakers and other university leaders, whose presentations focused on clarifying the great significance of tertiary education in social development and sustainable development, diversity and autonomy of universities, building research-based university.

During the forum held in Astana and Almaty (former capital of Kazakhstan), there were many activities among universities, particularly with researchers and faculty members of the host university, Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. At the meetings, the UEB Rector expressed his desire to strengthen the cooperation in research and training with the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, especially with the Faculty of Economics, Business and Orient Research of the university.

The Asian Universities Forum was first held in Seoul (South Korea) and proposed by Seoul National University.

The UEB participation in the 3rd forum will contribute to further expansion of cooperation exchanges between the university and other universities in the Asia network. The activity gradually asserted the position of the UEB in the region and around the world.
