On October 11 , 2018, University of Economics and Business – Vietnam National University combined with embassy of Sweden in Hanoi to organize the international conference on Green finance: international experience and lessons for Vietnam at 801 hall, UEB.
The conference was attended by Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Anh Thu – Vice Rector of University of Economics and Business, Ms Victoria Rhodin Sandström - Embassy of Sweden, Prof. Gustav Martinsson, Royal Swedish Academy of Technology and experts, representatives from Embassy of Sweden, UNDP in Vietnam, representatives of the German development cooperation agency in Vietnam (GIZ), Central Institute for Economic Management ( CIEM) and lecturers, researchers and students from University of Economics and Business.
In the opening remarks, Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Anh Thu emphasized: As a member of Hanoi National University - the largest research-oriented university in Vietnam, University of Economics and Business has tried to obtain cooperation opportunities with universities and institutes around the world to develop research capacity as well as the learning opportunities for students and lecturers. University of Economics and Business wishes to become the cradle of knowledge, the destination of wisdom, especially in the fields of economics, finance and banking. The Green Finance Seminar is considered to be an opportunity for University of Economics and Business to welcome lecturers, scholars and guests from countries around the world to share their researches and experiences in implementing the green finance network and suggest useful lessons for Vietnam in the current context.
In the main content of the conference, green finance researches and international experience in this field are presented, combining with discussion between speakers and guests, delegates. The beginning presentation was made by Gustav Martinsson from Royal Swedish Academy of Technology about Finance and Climate Change Mitigation: Evidence from Sweden. The research pointed out that in order to build good policy on green finance, there should be collaboration between researchers, government and international organizations. In addition, country like Vietnam needs to build reasonable policy framework to strengthen the development of green finance.
In the next part, Mr. Jiri Dusik, representative of the United Nations Development Program presented research about Opportunities for unlocking the Green Finance in Vietnam. The research not only showed impacts of economic development on the environment in Vietnam but also pointed out the potential impacts on the environment of The Industrial Revolution 4.0.
In the last of the conference, Dr Thuy Nguyen, Dean of Accounting - Auditing faculty, University of Economics and Business and Mrs Minh Tran, Central Institute for Economic Management produced the research results on “Initial findings on Green finance: Legal framework and the condition for running effective green finance market”. The research suggested recommendations for developing green finance in Vietnam in the context of lacking legal framework for green investment and the supporting of green finance intermediaries.
After the presentations of the speakers, the guests and delegates discussed further on the issues of developing green finance with the highlight of legal framework in Vietnam. The discussion and the researches’ results presented in the conference are appreciated by the conference’s attendants because many useful suggestions are proposed.
