Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Truc Le:
YSI Asia Convening accumulating knowledge and opening of new economic thinking

Taking place trom 12th August to 15th August 2019, the Young Scholar Initiative (YSI) promises to create an open forum for the young scholars to discuss new economic thinking.

On this occasion, we interviewed Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Truc Le - Rector of VNU University of Economics and Business – the co-organizers of the event for his opinions on various aspects of the program:

Could you share the ultimate goal of the University when collaborating to hold the event?

The University hoped that many international scholars, speakers, scientists and friends will know about Vietnam, asserting that our country is the ideal destination for exchanging regional issues.

For the UEB, this is a good opportunity to connect professors, lecturers, and students, as well as to address the problems of Asia and global issues.

What is the role of the UEB in this Convening?

Currently, more than 80% of lecturers of the UEB graduated from universities in developed countries, with publications published in journals of ISI/SCOPUS database. At the convening, UEB was responsible for providing professional support to young scholars participating in the program, co-chairing parallel sessions. In addition, we also prepare facilities to ensure that the convening is well-facilitated and successful.

With careful preparation, we believe that the scholars will enjoy an open, dynamic academic forum to discuss freely and share their ideas. At the same time, we are well aware that this is a valuable opportunity to introduce to international friends the capital of Hanoi with rich culture and hospitable people.

Can you talk about the roundtable that the University chaired at the convening?

Along with the professional and organizational support, during this convening, the UEB chaired the roundtable entitled "Vietnam and the digital economy". The roundtable was led by Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Anh Thu - Vice Rector of the University. Participating the roundtable also included leading experts such as: Prof. Andrew Sheng - Fun International Institute; Prof. Christopher Balding - HSBC Business School of Beijing University (China); Mr. Nguyen Duc Vinh - General Director, Vietnam Prosperity Joint Stock Commercial Bank (VPBank); Mr. Nguyen The Trung - Chairman of DTT Technology Group, members of the Prime Minister's e-government working group; Dr. Vo Tri Thanh - Economist; Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Duc Thanh - Director of VEPR. The roundtable focused on issues such as digital transformation in the global scope, the future of Vietnam's digital economy, the impact of digital transformation on the development of Vietnam and implications for the government and businesses in the context of the Industrial Revolution 4.0.

What is the future cooperation between the UEB and INET?

With the orientation of internationalization of extensive education, the University of Economics has been strengthening cooperation with major and prestigious universities in the world, attracting the participation of leading research experts in many areas in the school's research and teaching activities. We have clear strategic directions, learn and select from the development strategy of advanced universities in the world to increase the integration quickly. The policy of international integration is thoroughly grasped from the Party Committee, to the leaders of the school as well as officials and public employees throughout the University.

The success of the Asian Young Economic Conference 2019 will have a very important meaning, not only academically but also a milestone for the University of Economics - VNU and the Young Scholar Initiative (YSI) Program. of the new Institute of Economic Thinking Research (INET) to carry out future scientific activities. I believe that, similarly in owning young cadres, scholars, Economics University and YSI in particular, INET in general will have many prospects for cooperation in the field of teaching, organizing events, seminars, conferences and joint researches and international projects.
