Building the international standard doctoral program in Development Economics

15th December 2010, a seminar on the preparation for international standard training program of Doctor in Development Economics was held at University of Economics and Business - VNU.

VNU Vice President Prof. Phung Xuan Nha chaired the seminar and approved the VNU policy of promoting international standard in postgraduate training. He also requested the University of Economics and Business - VNU to present the framework of the development economics doctoral training program. The Vice President of VNU required a scientifically and practically idea, consistent with the strategic objectives of VNU.

Dr. Vu Quoc Huy - Dean of Development Economics Faculty has presented the plan to establish Center for joint training Doctor of Economics and Development Economics. He believed that the plan is a remarkable step toward development economics doctoral training program of international standard.

Besides, other ideas have analyzed many issues related to specific objectives; ensuring conditions of human resources, finance and program enrollment and the project schedule.

Based on the analysis and common agreement of representatives of key officials, Prof. Nguyen Hong Son - UEB Permanent Vice Rector has confirmed that the University of Economics and Business stands ready for missions appointed by VNU.

To conclude, Prof. Phung Xuan Nha has agreed with the idea of establishing joint training center of doctor in Economics and Development Economics as a condition for the doctoral training program in Development Economics at international level. Promisingly, the training program is bringing great efficiency to meet the demand of society. The direction is consistent with the academic development trends, Vietnam’s and the world’s context, as well as the strategy of VNU.

In the coming period, VNU leaders plan to assign the UEB to design a detailed and feasible program framework. Prof. Phung Xuan Nha suggested that during planning, the university should pay attention to approach internationally recognized outcome-based standard; focusing on mobilizing resources to build the conditions for program; aiming to autonomy and sustainable development for the training curriculum.
