The courses are designed by School of Business Administration with high applicability, aiming to help students throughout their studies, and establishing a solid foundation for their future career. “Teamwork Skills” for first-year students and “Corporate Culture and Business Ethics” for second-year are among the most fascinating ones.

Teamwork – An essential skill for life

The Teamwork course offers undergraduate students at School of Business Administration with fundamental teamwork skills. In this course, students will be introduced to variety aspects, such as: task management, phase organisation, quality assessment and member supervision. Practice activities in class also help students develop soft skills in teamwork, such as: communication, presentation, problem – solving… This course will leave undergrads with a strong work ethic, higher confidence, assertiveness and applicable skills for their future projects. 

 

Dr. Dang Thi Huong, head of the Corporate Culture and Business Ethics Department, instructor of Teamwork Skills for first year students emphasizes the importance of teamwork: “In reality, all projects require collaboration. Teamwork assembles the intelligence, abilities and skills of all team members, thus creating ideas, innovations and products with higher value and practicality.” In class, Dr. Huong introduces students to a variety of captivating “case studies”. Some of the most notable are: “The importance of Teamwork in Wal-Mart and Nokia” with follow-up questions such as: “Why do leading corporations worldwide like Wal-Mart and Nokia employ teamwork?”; “Is teamwork a crucial skills for employees in Vietnamese companies? Provide your answer with reasons and examples.”… Moreover, students also engage in role-playing simulations to practice problem solving, enabling a deeper understanding of the lesson and an ability to apply their knowledge into practical operation. 

Dang Le Viet Duc, a student at UEB, said: “This course helped me learn to listen to others’ opinions, assessing problems, advocating my ideas, and leading a group. From small steps to our final project, we were trained in collaboration, flexibility and becoming detail-oriented.”

 

Overall, teamwork helps each individual in expanding their personal abilities, connecting and learning from other team members, and relieving stress from a heavy workload. In teamwork, all members can improve and supplement for each other’s strengths and weaknesses, working towards the best possible outcome.

Corporate Culture and Business Ethics – An integral component of a successful career in business

The Corporate Culture and Business Ethics course equips students with foundational, modern and practical knowledge about corporate culture, models in business culture and the process of constructing business culture.

 

Dr. Bui Thi Quyen, instructor of Corporate Culture and Business Ethics values the practicality of the course to potential corporation members or business owners in maintaining integrity, a key component to the success of any business. However, the lecturer also recognizes the challenge this course may pose to first and second-year students. Therefore, in class, Dr. Quyen often offers pragmatic examples with illustrative videos and pictures, encouraging a better understanding of theories in students.

 

According to Dr. Quyen, another effective teaching method is letting students participate in the teaching process. Student in Dr. Quyen’s class can study the material beforehand in groups, then take on the role of “lecturers” and teach the lesson to the class. Facing such a ‘major responsibility’, students usually get really excited and active in sharing what they’ve learned to the rest of the class. This is a very interesting self-study method, and I am the one to conclude the day’s knowledge after each lesson.” – Dr. Quyen said.

Furthermore, students get to engage in constructing scenarios of business ethics violations, creating scripts, role-playing in class or recording videos to express their understanding in unique personal styles. After each chapter, students can compete in different games to revise the chapter’s knowledge in a fun, playful way.

Upon finishing Corporate Culture and Business Ethics, Nguyen Hai Linh – a student in the QH2020E QTKD CLC 2 class – expressed gratitude to her lecturer and appreciation of the insights this course provided: “… Her (Dr. Quyen) methods helped us not only in better comprehending the lesson, but also enhanced our confidence, assertiveness and teamwork skills. After each ‘Case Study’, and getting to learn from real-life experiences, I find it much easier to retain the day’s lessons.”
