Mr. Yohei Sasakawa - Chairman of the Nippon Foundation at the meeting with the students of VNU-UEB
On 28 January 2013, students of VNU University of Economics and Business had the opportunity to meet the Chairman of the Nippon Foundation - Mr. Yohei Sasakawa within his visit at VNU.
Attending at the meeting were Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Kim Son - Vice President of VNU, MA. Truong Viet Ha - Vice Director of International Relations Department, Dr. Nguyen Thi Tuyet - Vice Director of Political-Student Affairs Department, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Thanh, VNU-UEB Vice Rector.
With youthful and humorous style, Mr. Sasakawa gave to the auditorium a funny atmosphere, comfort and intimacy. He discussed closely with students and trainees of VNU University of Economics and Business on many issues in life, especially the "happiness".
According to Mr. Sasakawa, “happiness” is to witness to others when we bring happiness to them. “Happiness” of a person’s life is very short, so when “happiness” is given, it will last forever. When achieving success, making a lot of money, people should know to share with the less fortunate fate, thereby finding happiness for themselves.
Yohei Sasakawa’s humor created the comfortable and open meeting.
Talking to students about the direction for the future, Mr. Sasakawa sent to young people a message: when being young, each person should always ask yourself the question, “What have to do? How to live better?”, then, you can create your own consistent way and work hard to achieve your goals. In addition, young people who have time to experience, though they have to cope with failure, he hoped they would still follow the right path that they have chosen, should not follow a “safe” way of life.
In the meeting, the students and trainees of VNU-UEB posed to Mr. Sasakawa many interesting questions about love, life, his motivation for performing humanitarian activities, and Japanese self-discipline, or a story "apathy" of the people while gradually mature ...
Besides, the VNU-UEB students were also interested in how to become a part of the Nippon Foundation, and performing meaningful activities; or whether the Nippon Foundation intends to support a number of other volunteer activities that the students are doing besides the purpose of helping leprotic patients...
VNU-UEB students raise many interesting questions to the Chairman of the Nippon Foundation
The meeting made VNU-UEB students and trainees understand more about the President of the Nippon Foundation with shared and humanitarian life view.
Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Thanh, Vice Rector of VNU-UEB, said that the meeting not only created good conditions for UEB students to communicate with the Chairman of the Nippon Foundation scholarships, but also showed the expansion of cooperation of VNU in general, UEB with Japanese as well as international organizations.

Earlier, at another meeting, VNU leaders thanked the Nippon Foundation for the cooperation and the facilitate for students and postgraduates at Vietnam National University, Hanoi. VNU has been rigorously examined scholarship for the poor students to overcome difficulties, having good academic achievement and leadership potential, management.

The Nippon Foundation works with the purpose for a peaceful and prosperous society, and guarantees the basic needs and human rights. The Nippon Foundation has financed many charitable works in over 100 countries around the world, especially in humanitarian field in Southeast Asia. In Vietnam, the Fund has supported many programs and humanitarian projects such as funding for the operation of independent living centers, project for supporting people with disabilities, education and vocational training program for the blind with funding of up to $5 million.
With the aim of helping the developing countries on exploiting and developing human resources, in 1987, the Nippon Foundation established The Ryoichi Sasakawa Young Leaders Fellowship Fund (Sylff) Program that hold the name of the founder of the Nippon Foundation is to support students pursuing graduate studies in humanities and social sciences disciplines, in the hope of nurturing and training young leaders who can solve the global issues in the future.
SYLFF Program started at the Vietnam National University, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City in 2000. In the end of 2012, 229 outstanding graduates of two national universities have received SYLFF scholarship. The VNU University of Economics and Business had 4 students and postgraduates receiving this scholarship.
