VEPR promotes applied research for policy making and socio-economic development

Viet Nam Institute for Economic and Policy Research (VEPR) under the University of Economics and Business - Vietnam National University, Hanoi has been officially recognized as a key research center at Vietnam National University, Hanoi since 2018. Many researches on economics and policies with high practical application implemented by the Institute have contributed to improving the decision-making quality of policy making and implementing agencies at central and local levels, and at the same time promoting productivity improvement, quality and efficiency of corporate governance as well as knowledge sharing to society.

In 2021, following the success of previous years' economic annual reports, VEPR has announced the 13th Vietnam Economic Annual Report with the theme of Repositioning Vietnam in the context of global volatility. The conference attracted nearly 400 delegates from agencies, ministries, departments, embassies, institutes/research centers, universities, national and international organizations, businesses and media agencies. news participants. After the seminar ended, there were 30 articles/news pages reported and main results announced, nearly 70,000 direct followers and video playbacks.

In addition, VEPR also maintains a Seminar to announce quarterly economic reports within the framework of cooperation with the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung Fund (KAS) in Vietnam. VEPR specifically opens the VEPR policy opinion page (VEPR Oppinion) which publishes many issues in a month and aggregates it into a quarterly Policy Opinion (currently implemented in the third and fourth quarters of 2021). Seminars and quarterly Policy Outlook reports help readers have policy analysis as well as forecasts and economic development prospects updated with socio-economic events.

Accompanying businesses and individuals on the journey to recovery of production and business after the COVID-19 pandemic, contributing to the development of timely support policies and solutions to restore production and business in poor conditions. In the new normal, VEPR has collaborated with BIDV Training and Research Institute (BTRI) and Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom (FNF) Vietnam to conduct research and publish a report with the theme "Facilitation of household business activities towards recovery and growth under the new normal conditions”. The research report and results at the workshop held on October 15, 2021 have been widely communicated, making a significant contribution to attracting attention to support policies for small and micro enterprises and households. doing business, creating equality in the business environment and accessing State policies.

In addition to implementing and publishing researches applying macro policies, in 2021, VEPR also has new research directions associated with new trends of the economy and sustainable development. On December 29, 2021, VEPR and the Vietnam FNF Institute cooperated with the People's Committee of Lang Son province to organize an international conference on " Developing a public-private partnership for construction of Lang Son Geopark " to promote tourism economic development in the direction of promoting ecological values, sustainable livelihoods, associating indigenous cultural values of the ethnic groups of Vietnam. In addition, VEPR has also made a number of outstanding reports such as: "Vietnam's international economic integration in the context of joining new generation free trade agreements", "Agriculture and free trade" in Vietnam: Developing agricultural products to meet new-generation free trade agreements", "The development of digital currency: Impact assessment opportunities, challenges, goals, perspectives and Vietnam's solution”…
