The UEB staff addresses the International Conference on Fisheries Economics & Trade

The Seventeenth International Conference of the International Institute of Fisheries Economics & Trade (IIFET 2014) was held at the Queensland University of Technology (QUT), Brisbane, Australia with the attendance of over 300 scholars from organizations, research institutions and universities around the world.

The conference consisted of seven sections, continuously took place from 7th to 11st July 2014. Participating in the conference, the faculty member of VNU University of Economics (UEB) was Dr. Nguyen Viet Thanh, researcher of  Environmental and Resource Economics (the UEB’s Faculty of Development Economics). Dr. Thanh has presented two studies including (1) assessing the vulnerability to climate change on the people’s livelihoods and (2) analysis of the economic efficiency of fishing fleets in Vietnam. These studies was jointly conducted by the UEB’s Faculty of Development Economics, the Institute of Marine Environment and Resources and the UEB students.
The presentation received contributive comments from the conference participants, which inspired further research and cooperation for the team in Vietnam and abroad.
In the framework of the conference, Dr. Thanh had meetings and discussion with several potential partners about evaluating the impact of climate change on fisheries, evaluating the competitiveness of Vietnam’s tuna exports and sustainable development in several locals in Vietnam.

Participating and presenting at a major international conference is a good opportunity for the UEB staff to learn and share experience, seek the funding and cooperation in research with international scholars and researchers.
