Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Hong Son - UEB Rector and Vice Rectors chaired the session.
The participants have listened to the report on 2011-2012 activities as well as 2012-2013 plan of the university by Assoc.Prof.Dr. Tran Anh Tai - UEB Vice Rector. The report has summarized the situation of 2011-2012, which highlighted 10 representative events of the university as well as the achievements/limitations during the past academic year and their reasons.

Assoc.Prof.Dr. Tran Anh Tai presents the 2011-2012 report 2012-2013 plan of the university.

The report shows that despite of some limitations, the university has overcome difficulties to complete the goal of 2011-2012 academic year. Most activities’ targets increased over the 2010-2011 academic year. The completion rate of all activities is estimated at over 90%, of which over 50% of the targets surpassed the tentative goal; 7% of the set plans has been cancelled due to the unpracticality or changes in guidelines and policies.
In particular, some activities were fulfilled or exceeded 100%, particularly the key tasks such as: (1) Training: increasing scale of postgraduate training, reaching 103% of the target; making adjustments according to the outcome based and CDIO based training; openning new high quality and postgraduate training programs; (2) Quality assurance: completing self-assessment report by the accreditation standard of the Ministry of Education and Training; acting as a pioneer in implementing self-assessment under the new accreditation standard of VNU; enforcing the examination questions set for strategic mission training program; (3) Scientific research: increasing the number of articles published in national and international journals; publishing the Vietnam Annual Economic Report; winning state level research projects, reaching 200% of the plan; (4) Human resources: attracting and recruiting many faculty members doctoral degree; many faculty members were sent to improve their English and professionalism, reaching 514% of plan)...
After 5 years performing as a VNU member university (since 2007), the University of Economics and Business was put into stable operation, gaining a number of achievements in training and scientific research to develop the recognization among organizations and the community for its consistant direction towards high quality and international standard training, contributing to develop the UEB brand and sustainable development.
Evaluating each unit, it can be seen that Faculties of the UEB had more active performance in implementing tasks assigned. Leaders of the UEB’s units have shown their determination and devotion during the implementation of the mission committed. The task completion degrees at the UEB’s Faculties and Centers were equivalent. The reasonable distribution of resources helped the units accomplish their tasks, while they can develop their own strengths.

At the working session, many delegates have discussed and contributed to the complition of 2011-2012 academic year report and the plan for the next year. The ideas focused on important content such as: designing and implementing of undergraduate and postgraduate training programs; strengthening joint training programs; stabilizing double degree training; preparing the the quality assurance of strategic mission training program in accordance with accreditation standards of ASEAN Universities Network; faculty recruiting; adjusting the syllabus; communication on the university’s activities; expanding facilities; human resources tasks; monitoring the implementation of the plan; developing quality culture.
The participants also shared their recommendations and experience in implementing major research teams; specialized research for government agencies; strengthen the communication for training programs; sending students to probation in enterprises; improving research efficiency among UEB staff and faculty...

Assoc.Prof.Dr. Phung Xuan Nha addresses the 2011-2012 academic year closing session of the UEB.

Addressing the session, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Phung Xuan Nha expressed his pleasure in the success of the UEB after 5 years of establishment. On behalf of VNU Board, the Vice President has recognized and confirmed that the UEB has successfully completed the task of the 2011-2012 academic year. He emphasized “After 5 years of establishment, the University of Economics and Business has developed high quality staffs who dedicated to the development of the university. However, it is necessary for the university to reinforce its strengths”. The VNU Vice President has offered his guidance to the UEB in three main fields, including:
(1) Regarding training, the university need to specialize the training majors, set the training on the base of professional and interdisciplinary research to have accurate investment; strengthening the management of quality assurance; selecting several training programs to accreditate.
(2) Regarding scientific research, the UEB should invest more in research in economics; focus on building a sustainable research program such as climate change...
(3) The university needs to develop specific projects, such as staff planning project, particularly researchers. It also needs to increase the role of Faculties in research activities.
Assoc.Prof.Dr. Phung Xuan Nha believed that with the new situation and advantages, the UEB is entering a new chapter with new achievements in the next academic year of 2012-2013.
On behalf of the UEB Management Board, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Hong Son has expressed his gratitude for the guidance and advice of the VNU Vice President. UEB Rector sent his thanks to VNU Board and other functional departments for their attention and precious guidance for the university in the last academic year. He committed to examine and build a development project for the university.
To conclude the session, the UEB Rector has said: “In general, the UEB has achieved its goals for the 2011-2012 academic year, which correctly matches the orientation of the VNU. Thanks to the common efforts of staff, especially key officials, the university has ensured its stable growth. As a result, the university has built a base for the development of next stage. The 2012-2013 is the year to create new breakthroughs”... After presenting the major solutions, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Hong Son has confirmed that the UEB is able to make a breakthrough in the next academic year.
2012-2013 is second academic year when VNU University of Economics and Business implement the 5 year plan (2011-2015) under the theme: "Creating the great advance based on the innovation, professionalism, creativity and cultural of the community.” We believe that, with the precious conditions and thorough preparation as well as the common agreement and enthusiasm of its staff, the UEB will be definitely fulfill the missions of 2012-2013 academic year, contributing more achievements to the celebration of the 5^th establishment anniversary and towards the 40^th anniversary of UEB tradition, creating new breakthroughs in the university’s progress.
