Assc.Prof.Dr. Phung Xuan Nha awarded the Director Appointment Decision to Dr. Nguyen Duc Thanh
On 9th July 2008, the Opening Ceremony of Center for Economic and Policy Research (CEPR) belong to University of Economics and Business (Vietnam National University, Hanoi) was solemnly held by the UEB.
In the ceremony, Assc.Prof. Dr. Phung Xuan Nha, Rector of the UEB had a speech introducing the open of the CEPR and awarded the Appointment Decision to Dr. Nguyen Duc Thanh to become a Director of the center. Assc.Prof.Dr. Phung Xuan Nha emphasized: “This is a great even of the UEB… The UEB decided to establish the CEPR to attract scientists within and without the country, who have the research and advice capacity about economic and policy issues. CEPR will be a great environment, attracting Vietnamese who are well trained overseas with high research level, and foreign scientists who are interested in Vietnam, thus creating and developing superior research groups, strongly influencing academic and advising issues related to economic and policy fields in Vietnam…”
Then, Dr. Nguyen Duc Thanh, Director of CEPR presented the principles, goals and development orientation of the center. The missions of CEPR are: to create and gather superior research groups in theoretical and economical policy research; to connect economists within and without the country; to create economic shoal to solve basic problems of Vietnam and the region.
In the ceremony, distinguished guests congratulated on the establishment of CEPR, shared with the leadership organizational experiences. They expressed that the establishment of CEPR was timely, necessary and greatly feasible in realizing the targeted mission. Prof.Dr. Mai Trong Nhuan, President of VNU also expressed his congratulations, suggested some viewpoints to develop the CEPR and emphasized: “Vietnam National University, Hanoi strongly supports the CEPR’s development orientation and the UEB. I expect and believe in the great contributions of CEPR to the development of the UEB as well as the academic and advising influence of CEPR in economic and policy issues in Vietnam, in the region and worldwide”.
CEPR was established by developing existing research group, including 10 young doctors. These doctors were trained in developed countries and are currently working in state’s offices, well known universities and research institutes. They have built a network of many scientists within and without the country. CEPR receives closely supports from the Science Council whose President is Prof. Le Van Cuong - Research Director at the Centre National de Recherches Scientifiques (CNRS), Director of Groupe de Recherche en Droit - Economie et Gestion (GREDEG), Nice, France. In the coming time, CEPR will implement variety of activities, which will focus on: realizing post - establishment procedures, continuing the implementation of advising program for Ministry of Finance, evaluating potentiality and development chances of CEPR, forming and developing some research groups.
