Signing MOU with Swinburne University of Technology, Australia

On 25th September 2015, within the framework of the working visit to Australia, leaders of the VNU University of Economics and Business (UEB) signed the Memorandum of Understanding with the Swinburne University of Technology (SUT), Australia.


Attending the meeting, from the UEB, there were Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Hong Son - Rector, Dr. Nguyen Anh Thu - Vice Rector, Dr. Nguyen Quoc Viet - Dean of the Faculty of Development Economics and MA. Vu Thanh Huong - Faculty of International Business and Economics. From the SUT, there were Mr. Jeffrey Smart - Vice Rector, Mrs. Marisa Furno - Head of Global Education Partnership, Prof. Bernadine Van Gramberg - Dean of the Swinburne Faculty of Business.

At the meeting, Mr. Jeffrey Smart introduced the history, development orientation, training programs and research projects undertaken by SUT. In particular, he emphasized the three principles of international cooperation of the University, including: alignment, mutual benefits and advancement.

Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Hong Son and Dr. Nguyen Anh Thu also shared information about partner network, international cooperation activities as well as research projects of the UEB, including key research projects on international integration, development economics, business administration as well as finance and banking. The UEB’s Rector also emphasized the principal of “mutual benefit” in cooperation and pointed out similarities in training, research and cooperation between the UEB and the SUT.

Previously, the two universities had initial agreement in some key areas, including: academic exchange of faculties and students, study tours for Australian entrepreneurs to Vietnam and vice verse; cooperation in doctoral, masters and bachelor training programs, especially the global leadership program.

After the discussion, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Hong Son and Mr.Jeffrey Smart signed the Memorandum of Understanding in the presence of representatives from both sides. This event not only promoted international cooperation activities but also affirmed the prestige and position of the UEB in the international education community.

VNU University of Economics and Business has partnered with Swinburne University of Technology in conducting the research project "Assessment of impacts and maximize the benefits of foreign direct investment (FDI) to the local community of recipient countries". The goal of the project is to evaluate the impact of FDI inflows for investment-receiving countries through the investigation and review of the decision making process of the multi-national companies operating in ASEAN countries. From that basis, the project suggested some policy recommendations to enhance the positive impact of FDI on the development of the investment-receiving country.

The project has been undertaken from 2012 in the ASEAN region and so far the project team has launched the evaluation report for the 6 countries including Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam. In Vietnam, the project has conducted surveys, interviews and held intensive meetings in four provinces including Hanoi, Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City and Quang Ninh.

During the working visit at Swinburne University of Technology, the UEB’s leaders also attended the conference within the framework of the above project, taking place from 22nd - 23rd September 2015. At the conference, UEB’s representatives made discussion on FDI in Vietnam with policy agencies, universities and research institutes from other ASEAN countries. The UEB’s leaders also proposed suggestions to complete the final report about Vietnam.
