UEB’s students exchange with students from the University of Sydney Business School

The students participate in discussion groups
On 21st November 2016, Institute of Business Administration, VNU University of Economics and Business held an exchange with students of the University of Sydney Business School, Australia.


The exchange was held for the purpose of academic exchanges, discussions and meetings with social enterprises (SEs) in Vietnam. Attending the exchange, from the University of Sydney Business School, there were Dr. Jarrod Ormiston and Ms. Melanie Feeney - Coordinator of the program together with 25 students and learners.

 

On behalf of the Institute of Business Administration, UEB, Dr. Nguyen Dang Minh - Vice Dean of the Institute welcomed the University of Sydney Business School on their 2nd visit and collaborative research on social enterprises in Vietnam.

 

At the academic exchange, Dr. Nguyen Phuong Mai presented the research on opportunities and challenges when starting businesses in Vietnam. Dr. Ho Chi Dung talked about business ethics in Vietnam. Within the framework of the project on social enterprises, Dr. Linh Nguyen presented the research on social impact assessment of the social enterprises in Vietnam.

Afterward, Dr. Jarrod Ormiston hosted the group discussion. The students were divided into groups to work and ask questions to the presenters so that they can understand thoroughly about the start-up and business environment in Vietnam in general and Vietnamese social enterprises in particular.

This year, the students of two universities were divided into 7 groups, conducting researches on seven Vietnamese social enterprises: To he, Uncle Tom, Nam Thang Long, Imagtor, KOTO, Thanh Nguyen and Others.

In the afternoon of 21st November, students of the two universities had chances to meet and talk with speakers being representatives of investors and organizations supporting the Ses about the opportunities and challenges for SEs and creating social impact in Vietnam. The speakers included Ms. Pham Kieu Oanh - Founder and Director of the Centre for Social Initiatives Promotion (CSIP); Ms. Nguyen Thuy Duong - Coordinator of Thriive Hanoi and Mr. Tuan Pham - Representatives of Lotus Impact in Vietnam. Besides, representatives of seven SEs also exchanged and discussed on related business issues.

 

After the meeting, the students of two universities gained useful knowledge and get ready for a week of working and doing research with social enterprises.
