Lecturer, Troy University (2016- Present)

  • Serve as course instructor for the university regarding insurance law, principles of risk management, property and casualty, business communication, business law, insurance law, and business ethic practices.
  • Promote classroom discussion by suggesting topics, modeling best practices when analyzing business writing and legal cases, and interjecting when necessary
  • Develop instructional content focusing on specific business writing techniques and social media platforms that support business communication to employees and customers
  • Assess students throughout the semester with a series of case studies and court rulings to enhance critical thinking skills
  • Collaborated with other department colleagues to promote oral and written communication skills, such as research showcase and oral debate competitions
  • Manager of Contract Administration/Credit Underwriting, Walt Disney Company (2005- 2016)
  • Oversee multiple business units with over 25 employees ranging in job responsibilities from preparation of contract documents, credit underwriting, and closing of real estate transactions.
  • Redesigned the closing process and worked with government agencies to close real estate contracts more efficiently escalating revenue recognition by $7M
  • Created and implemented two new business channels generating over $1.7M in revenue without increasing existing department’s work force
  • Develop and provide ongoing support to Sales Teams located in multiple states and Japan on real estate law and credit regulations that impact the business

  • Responsible for financial and administrative management of the company which includes budgeting, accounting, contract negotiations, forecasting, and marketing for internet streaming company.
  • Negotiated broadcasting and event contracts with SEC Network, Universities, and sports promoters, to create aquatic sports programming content for internet streaming
  • Implemented a media campaign that created over 16,000 Facebook and 10,000 Twitter followers along with other brand recognition strategies on various social media platforms
  • Serve as show production coordinator and on air talent for various sports streaming events (football, baseball, basketball, swimming, triathlon, diving and water polo)

 

Managing Attorney, Morris, Schneider & Prior, LLC (2002 – 2005)

  • Represented global banks and lending institutions with a primary focus on loan servicing and default matters for this 23 attorney firm. Provided legal advice on real estate, banking, and collection law in addition to assisting with the acquisition and sale of asset backed loans.
  • Implemented the turnaround of a litigation division by changes to the internal processes to increase firm standards; changes increased aggregated annual net revenue by $500K
  • Developed an internal executive resource for training purposes; outlining changes in business principles, procedures, and structure that improved employee performance
  • Created and facilitated training programs on collection practices and procedures to assist in the compliance with the Fair Debt Collections Practices Act
  • Served as Associate Counsel for the Alabama Mortgage Bankers Association

 

Vice President and In-House Counsel, ABC Kiddie Kollege, Inc. (2000 – 2002)

  • Managed all day to day business and legal operations for a child care company. Responsible for financial and administrative management of the company; budgeting, accounting, credit, banking relations, human resources, forecasting, and business computing.
  • Increased client base 46% by forging strategic relationships with local corporations, garnering media coverage for school programs, and participating in community events
  • Renegotiated vendor/creditor contracts and established prudent inventory levels of industry supplies
  • Packaged the company for sale which included: preparation of all financials, identified and evaluated brokers and directed avenues for sale; hired attorney and tax advisor to facilitate the transfer; and served as lead negotiator with multiple suitors

 

Associate Attorney, Crosslin, Slaten & O’Connor, P.C. (1998 – 2000)

  • Served as a defense attorney and represented various clients within the insurance, pest control and manufactured housing industry. Practiced in multiple jurisdictions, and gained class action experience.
  • Managed commercial civil litigation in this 15 attorney firm
  • Conducted numerous depositions, discovery, and motion appearances and gained trial court experience, arbitrated cases, and negotiated settlements
  • Developed and implemented a telephone “hot line” providing general advice and counsel on a wide range of commercial transactions, service contracts, and internal corporate governance for the pest control industry
  • Designed and implemented a collection training program to assist business owners with collection issues
