Candidates asked – UEB answered: opportunities for new VNU-UEB students with new major of Development Economics)

Understand the market demand of high quality human resources to tackle sustainable development issue, starting from this year, the Falculty of Development Economics open 03 new specialized training majors. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Trung Thanh - Head of Training Department, VNU-UEB will provide students and parents further information related to this topic through QnA session as below.


 

Question 1: What is the differences of the program implemented from 2022 for freshmen entering this year of Development Economics Major?
Answer: The new feature of the training program for development economics major which will be implemented from the university entrance exam in 2022 for new students entering this year, is that they have been trained intensively with 3 majors, including :

(1) Major in Economic Data Analysis and Policy

(2) Major in Economics of Natural Resources, Environment, and Real Estate

(3) Major in Tourism and Service Economics

Students will be able to choose a major intensively from term 6, term 7 of the academic year.

The separation of majors is an opportunity for students to be trained in specialized knowledge, more closely oriented to have better carreer path in the future.

Question 2: What positions can I apply after graduating from Development Economics? Does the university support employment during and after graduation?

Answer: For students majoring in development economics, after graduation, they will have enough knowledge to work in the following 5 groups of positions:

(1) Group 1. Economic officers and economic managers at all levels , types of enterprises

Participate in economic management, planning for socio-economic development; formulating solutions and policies for economic development, especially in the field of public policy and sustainable development; future prospects can become policy makers and managers at state management agencies, social enterprises, and business enterprises.

(2) Group 2. Consultant, policy analyst on economic development

Analyze the current situation, assess the impact of economic growth and development; advise solutions and policies for economic development; future prospects can become consultants and policy analysts on development economics.

(3) Group 3. Project development staff

Analyze the socio-economic status of the community and the country; participate in the planning and implementation of development projects; synthesize, research, analyze and participate in development policy making.

(4) Group 4. Researchers and lecturers

Teaching subjects related to development economics, economics, public policy and development, economics of natural resource and environment...; Research and consult on economics and development economics, public policy, environmental economy, sustainable development.

(5) Group 5. Self-employment

Students after graduation are capable of self-employment by starting up businesses related to economy and development.

During their studies at VNU-UEB, they will also have the opportunity to do internships at research institutes, state economic organizations, businesses, NGOs, etc. or in foreign countries in research institutes, state economic organizations.

In addition, the University also pays great attention to expanding cooperation with organizations and applications. businesses and corporations to provide job opportunities for students.

The Faculty has a Job Introduction Support Team, which is connected by lecturers with a network of organizations and businesses that need to recruit students.

Question 3: What are the combinations of subjects that apply for admission to the Development Economics major? Can a student register for 2 majors with the same combination?

Answer: The training program in Development Economics will consider the following combinations: A01, D01, D09, D10, in which, the English score is multiplied by 2 and calculated on a 40-point scale

Therefore, student can register for 2 majors of the VNU-UEB with the same combination.

Question 4: Does the name of majors displayed on the diploma and transcript?

Answer: The diploma will indicate the major as Development Economics and the transcript will show both the falcuty and the major student has chosen.

Question 5: Can I take the transfer study at the schools that VNU-UEB affiliated with? Does transfer learning have any effect on academic results at school?

Answer: This is also one of the advantages when they choose to study at VNU-UEB.

Only for students enrolled in the Development Economics program of VNU-UEB will be able to choose to study one or several modules equivalent to the existing modules in the Program Framework to study abroad and domestically in the form of credit exchange and student exchange. The number of exchange students each year depends on the student exchange policy between VNU-UEB and its partners. Students participating in international exchange programs will be exempted from tuition fees, and you only have to pay for traveling and accommodation expenses, but there are many valuable scholarships for this activity to support for that.

Question 6: What are the scholarships that students majoring in Development Economics can receive?

Answer: UEB is called "scholarship heaven" with countless valuable scholarship packages. Recently, in the first semester of 2021-2022, the UEB Study Encouragement Scholarship with a total value of nearly 4 billion VND/semester was awarded to excellent UEBers.

Besides, especially for Development Economics students, they also have the opportunity to receive the Laval Scholarship (Laval University, Quebec, Canada) which is an annual scholarship of Laval University once a year for students from Faculty of Development Economics with levels from $500 to $2000.

Question 7: How long does the Development Economics program last? How many credits does the program have?

Answer: The program is designed to consist of 8 main semesters divided evenly over 4 years. Depending on the capacity and study plan of each student, the training time can be shortened or extended in accordance with the university training regulations of VNU.

The total amount is 130 credits. In which, there 63 credits related to the major and 33 eclective credits and 28 credits are the courses taught in English.

‘Question 8: I want to find further infotmation of previous years admission scores of Development Economics for referrence, could the VNU-UEB provide me that?

Question 9: I follow the fanpage of the Faculty of Development Economics and see that the Faculty has a lot of activities for students. Can you share more about extracurricular activities and competitions that we can participate in as students of Development Economics in particular?

Answer: The Faculty of Development Economics is always a faculty with a large number of students participating in activities. Among them, can be mentioned as Green Startup and Environmental Action Club (GSEA); Economic Research Student Community (RCES); Club UEBtv of general entertainment news channel.; Green Finger Vietnam program - an environmental protection project sponsored by the ASEAN Youth Volunteer Program 2015,..
