When I was in high school, I wanted to find myself a new university environment, different from the normal university model in Vietnam. I choose UEB - Troy because I want small class size, good teaching quality and the opportunity to establish close relationships with other students and teachers. I want to meet people with a lot of experiences so that I can broaden my knowledge and become a more well-rounded person and I know that those relationships will be valuable for many years to come. In addition, I can join online courses, which allows me to work part-time and gain experience during my college time. I knew exactly what I wanted, but UEB - TROY allowed me to gain the professional certificate I needed to start my career.

In addition to the knowledge taught in class, the university has taught me to be more disciplined, more persistent, and to manage my time more effectively. No one in university reminds us to come to class or make sure we turn in our assignments on time, we are solely responsible and depend on our own seriousness and discipline. Managing time for both study, work and family is not easy. I need to study hard to get the degree I want, but always find ways to make studying less stressful by creating a specific study schedule and spending time with my family and activities that I enjoy. Furthermore, college is not always easy. From difficult courses to stress in balancing work, study and family and perseverance is the core element in the process of helping me overcome all difficulties. University can provide us with the knowledge to take the next step in our careers, but besides that, I always appreciate the valuable life lessons I learned during my time at UEB.

 

Actually, I don't have a specific tip or method to get good results, it's all about doing the basics well. The basics are coming to university on time, paying attention to lectures, being ready to ask questions when you have questions, previewing what you're about to learn, and trying to fully understand what you've learned. I consider myself a person who easily loses concentration, so I spend quite a lot of time reviewing and re-learning. Also, I try to make my time in class with the teacher as productive as possible. I see that there are some peers who often choose to go home to read and self-study and study quickly before each exam instead of spending time focusing on listening to lectures in class. It's also a way to learn, but I think it's ineffective, takes a lot of time and effort, is very stressful and uncomfortable.

In addition, being able to get good results in one thing depends a lot on the beginning. Always give yourself a good start, “START EARLY, START HARD”. When starting a subject, try to give your best in the first few sessions, study ahead of time, ask questions, give enthusiastic speeches, earning your first few grades. Then, you will be motivated to promote and perform better throughout the semester.

In general, I think each person will have a different method of learning that is suitable for each person's interests, abilities, and personality. I want to emphasize that, grades are not everything. You may not have a very high GPA, but in return, if you take the right time to work, practice, participate in other activities to improve knowledge and experience as well as experience. It's also a wonderful thing.

What brought Minh to UEB - TROY?

While wondering about finding a new direction after high, the UEB-TROY joint training program came to me as a pleasant surprise. Thanks to the recommendation of my mother who is working at Vietnam National University, Hanoi, I dared to apply for admission. After the conditional IELTS test, I have officially become a member of the UEB’s family.

 

Like many other students, I was a bit surprised when I first entered the university. However, thanks to the friendliness of friends and teachers, and the enthusiastic support of the coordinators, I quickly got used to and adapted to the university environment. Currently, although I cannot attend classes in person because of the epidemic, I am still satisfied that the school has created the best online learning environment for students. What I feel most interested in after nearly 4 years of learning at the University is the spirit of self-study and self-awareness. Although I am confident that I have learned a lot on my own since high school, I personally find that in college, the frequency of self-study is even higher. Self-study not only brings initiative, it also gives us many advantages and stability in the learning process. In particular, we learned in English posed some difficulties for us so I must try my best to understand the problems the teacher says in class.

So what secret did Minh have to achieve such a 4.0 GPA?

My learning method is nothing superior, I would like to share some tips as follows. One is teamwork. As you all know, when it comes to college, it's about teamwork, a lot of jobs that require you to cooperate with many other students. If you are lucky, you will be able to create your own group, otherwise you will be assigned to any group by the teacher. My sincere advice to you is to find reliable partners. Second is prioritizing work order/setting realistic goals: This advice is based on my own experiences. To achieve maximum efficiency and avoid being overloaded, you should prioritize important subjects and/or more difficult subjects. Sometimes, spending too much time on complex but low-scoring exercises can cause you to miss or burn out on more important exercises. Setting a realistic goal will help you avoid pressure and stay motivated to keep learning. Don't put all your energy into one term and then neglect the next - that's it!

My cousin studied in an international joint training program. I learnt about the UEB-Troy program and I think it was a good fit, I applied immediately.

After joining the UEB – TROY program, I was really impressed. The lectures are very interesting, the subjects are highly applicable and other students are enthusiastic and dynamic. The only difficulty to me subject register, it often takes time to register for the course, but we always received enthusiastic support from the program’s coordinators - Ms. Giang and Ms. Phuong, our super lovely coordinators.

 

I only have 2 tips I want to share. First, be enthusiastic in class. It doesn't sound like a trick, but it's the most useful. When I give a speech in class, I remember the knowledge while making a positive impression on the teachers.

Second, remember to read the material in advance and review before each class and before the exam! Otherwise, it is very difficult for me to follow the teachers in class.
