Monday Finance and Banking Series - From Research to Policy

With the expectation of creating a certain influence in the domestic and international scientific research community, up to now, after one year of operation, the "Monday Finance and Banking Series" series of seminars organized by the Faculty of Finance and Banking, VNU University of Economics and Business has contributed to improving the academic environment, serving as a launching pad for potential scientific ideas, contributing to improving the research ability of the lecturers.


With the expectation of creating a certain influence in the domestic and international scientific research community, up to now, after one year of operation, the "Monday Finance and Banking Series" series of seminars organized by the Faculty of Finance and Banking, VNU University of Economics and Business has contributed to improving the academic environment, serving as a launching pad for potential scientific ideas, contributing to improving the research ability of the lecturers.

The name "Monday Finance Series" comes from the idea that this is a series of discussion activities to share new knowledge, market conditions, research ideas, new research methods, research programs, and cooperation opportunities is held periodically every Monday under the chair of the Faculty of Finance and Banking, bringing together guests including researchers, policy makers, practical activists. With the first seminar taking place on March 1, 2021, the "Monday Finance and Banking Series" series of seminars has so far achieved impressive successes, providing a forum that provides opportunities for exchange and discussion among economists, lecturers and experts from universities, domestic and foreign organizations in the fields of economics, finance - banking.

The attraction of the series of seminars lies not only in the famous guests, but also in the rich and in-depth content of the topics, covering all economic - financial - social issues. prominent national and international associations.

For example, in 2021, especially in the second half of the year, when Vietnam was heavily affected by the fourth wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, the far-reaching effects of the pandemic were reflected in the series of seminars. These include live discussion sessions on the impact of COVID-19 and response policies of the Government and businesses on the domestic labor market; how the Government changes and is flexible in operating fiscal and monetary policy; as well as the impact of these policies on the stock market…

Many discussions within the framework of the "Monday Finance and Banking Series" seminar series pointed out that, although the COVID-19 pandemic has been negatively affecting all aspects of economic, political, and social life; this is also an opportunity and requires Vietnam to accelerate the digital transformation process - the "backbone" of the industrial revolution 4.0. In that context, banking is considered as one of the pioneering industries in the digital transformation race. In this content, the guests in the series of seminars gave an in-depth look at eKYC online customer identification technology, omnichannel customer experience, or requirements and solutions of product supply, banking services in the "digital banking" race.

In addition to discussing outstanding socio-economic issues, the series of seminars is also a place to share research experiences of speakers with many experiences in publishing international articles, including Dr. Dang Hoang Hai Anh (Senior Research Specialist of the World Bank), Dr. Nguyen Thi Mai Lan (VinUniversity University), Dr. Hoang Gia Thinh (RMIT University, Head of Research on Sustainable Development - Institute of Strategic Economics and Management)... In particular, the series of seminars also attracted the participation and sharing of researchers. and experts from many countries around the world participated in the discussion, such as Prof. Hongjoo Jung (President of the Institute of Insurance and Retirement, SKKU University, Korea), Prof. Man Cho (Chairman of the International Financial Consumer Protection Forum, Korea), Prof. Serdar Ongan (St. Mary's College of Maryland, USA), Mr. Karasawa Masayuki (Chief Advisor of Vietnam - Japan Human Resource Development Project), Associate Professor Dr. Quach Manh Hao (Lincoln University, UK)…

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Quach Manh Hao - Program Director of Accounting, Finance and Economics, International Business School, Lincoln University, UK shared on the topic: "Difference between theory and practice in banking and finance".

Receiving the support of the scientific research community and leading experts, the series of seminars "Monday Finance and Banking Series" has been widely spread to universities, domestic research institutions and international. Continuously from March 2021 up to now, the Faculty has organized nearly 50 seminars. Each seminar attracts from 30-50 participants, with the highest number of sessions attracting more than 100 lecturers and experts to participate in the discussion.

The Monday Finance and Banking Series session with the topic "Applied value investment strategies in Vietnam's stock market" was organized in a combination of face-to-face meetings at the Faculty of Finance - Banking Office and online via Zoom platform on the Internet.

 

 Speaker Phan Linh, founder and product specialist of Take Profit Vietnam Investment and Consulting Company participated in sharing on the topic "How to start investing and the potential from the stock market Vietnam"

 

 

Dr. Do Minh Thuy, Dean of Faculty of Economics and Business Administration - Hai Phong University participated in sharing on the topic "Meditation in business"

 

Mr. Karasawa Masayuki, Chief Advisor of the Vietnam - Japan Human Resource Development Project shared about the topic "Investment environment in Vietnam observed by Japanese companies & Contribution of Japan's ODA to the better investment environment"

 

Following the success of 2021, in 2022 the "Monday Finance and Banking Series" series of seminars will continue to bring many in-depth discussions with speakers - leading industry experts at home and abroad to exchange issues. Proposed topics, policies and ideas for economic recovery and development after the COVID-19 pandemic. In particular, within the framework of "Monday Finance and Banking Series" in July 2022, the expanded discussion with the topic "New frontiers in banking and finance - Roadmap to economic recovery and growth" will publish the results of the applied research on outstanding economic-financial issues in the process of economic recovery and development, thereby making proposals and initiatives for the Government, businesses and people. This series of researches is carried out by core research groups of the Faculty of Finance and Banking, VNU University of Economics and Business in collaboration with domestic and foreign experts.

It can be affirmed that, "Monday Finance and Banking Series" has met the expectation of creating a certain influence in the scientific research community in the country as well as reaching the international level. After a year of operation and development, the series of seminars is considered as a useful and interesting forum contributing to the sharing of knowledge, knowledge and ideas; connecting scientific researchers, lecturers, experts and policy makers at home and abroad in the field of finance - banking.
