The International Congress of Mathematicians 2014 (ICM 2014), held once every four years, is the most prestigious academic meeting of mathematicians’ community. ICM 2014 took place in Seoul, South Korea, under the theme “Dreams and Hopes for Late Starters” from 13 to 21 August 2014.
On the first day of the congress, The Fields Medals, the Nevanlinna Prize, the Gauss Prize, and the Chern Medal are awarded during the opening ceremony.
The ICM 2014 is divided into 19 sections including all areas of mathematics. More than 5,000 mathematicians from 125 different countries have attended ICM, the largest number in the history of ICM. The mainstay of the congress held in Seoul are several academic programs. There were also numerous public events in the program. In addition, ICM had 51 workshops with various mathematical topics, held in South Korea and other countries around the world before and after the Congress. 1,000 mathematicians from developing countries have been invited to attend ICM 2014.
Participate in the ICM 2014, Dr. Luu Quoc Dat (the UEB’s Faculty of Economic Development) has presented a paper on “a new fuzzy MCDM based on the between generalized fuzzy numbers arithmetic operations”. The presentation has opened further research direction and received the attention and positive comments of the ICM participants.

Before the opening of the ICM 2014, Dr. Luu Quoc Dat has been invited to attend the conference on Mathematics in Emerging Nations: Achievements and Opportunities held by the International Mathematical Association, took place in Seoul on 12 August.

Attending the ICM 2014 is a valuable opportunity for the UEB faculty member to interact, learn and share experiences, seek opportunities for research collaboration with leading mathematicians in the world. In this occasion, the UEB staff also took advantage to promote the image of the VNU University of Economics and Business to the world’s universities.
