UEB Students Gather Insights from a Seminar with Renowned St. Francis University Professor Dr. William Carroll

Recently, students and lecturers of the University of Economics, VNU, attended a seminar with the topic “Universal management lessons learned that may not be taught in the classroom” with speaker William J. Carroll.


During a visit to the University of Economics, VNU, Dr. William Carroll, Representative of the St. Francis University spoke at a seminar where he shares his experience on how to become a good managers. With the topic “Universal management lessons learned that may not be taught in the classroom,” the talk by Dr. William Carroll’s presentation brought a lively and exciting discussion on newly defined “Global Management” to the audience at Hall 801.

Speaking at the seminar, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Anh Thu, Vice Rector of the University, sent her sincere gratitude to Dr. William Carroll and wished him a successful business trip and many good memories in Vietnam. Conversing with Dr. William Carroll, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Anh Thu hopes that the cooperation between UEB and the University of St. Francis will grow stronger in the future. “We hope that in the future, both universities will continue to organize seminars and study tours for UEB students and St. Francis University students to facilitate knowledge sharing and cultural exchange. At the same time, the two schools will continue its commitment to academic excellence for students and lecturers of both institutions.”

During the exchange, Mr. William was very impressed with the proactive spirit, bold discussion and courageous attitude of UEB students. He shared, “It is great to know that UEB students have been given many opportunities to gain practical business experience during their time at the University. It is known that UEB is an environment that encourages start-up activities and creates many job opportunities for students. I believe this is a stepping stone for students to become good leaders and managers in the future.”

To Dr. William Carroll, a good leader needs great listening and communication skills. “As a leader, you need to learn to listen not only with your ears but with your whole heart.” Mr. William also remarked, “A good leader is one who can utilize his skills in any context. Leaders need to focus on their strengths and use them to bring more profits and success to the business. Knowing how to rely on your strengths allows you to differentiate yourself from others.”

Tran Hong Van, student of K1A4 USF, expressed, “Mr. William explained very clearly and meticulously the concept of Leadership and Management. We can understand him well through the stories and practical examples that he brought up in today’s seminar. I was also impressed by the fact that he mentioned the use of AI. Technology is developing rapidly, so the application of technology is extremely necessary. Good use of AI will make management tasks such as capital and human resources more efficient, saving manpower and labor. To me, Leadership is a necessary skill in work and learning, so I was grateful to be able to learn from this teacher and ask him questions directly.”

“Having the opportunity to listen to Mr. Carroll’s presentation is a blessing to me, and hearing the stories of his 20-year leadership as the Rector of University of St. Francis has greatly inspired me and other students. Perhaps, I’m most impressed with the saying “If letting someone leave is easy for you, you’re not a leader.” In the future, I hope that UEB can organize more seminars for CITE peers and me,” Kieu Thien Bao, student of K1A3, shared.
