At the seminar, delegates listened to the report “An Analysis of Vietnam’s Economic Situation” by Dr. Susan Adams, IMF former economic specialist in Vietnam (2001- 2005), is now STAR Fellow and RMIT-Vietnam Professional Fellow. In this report, Dr. Adams presented global economic situation and its impacts on Vietnam economy. Accordingly, Vietnam’s economic growth in 2008 and the coming years would be slow and decreased (2007: 8,4%; 2008: 6,2%; estimated 2009: 5.5%; 2010:6,2%). Additionally, budget deficit tended to increase (2007: -6,9%; 2008: -5.1%; estimated 2009: -7,3%; 2010: -7,1%). The report also referred to and suggested several evaluations on policy of Vietnam Government to cope with global economic declination. From that point, the author recommended some proposals to ensure the imminent objectives as well as long-term stability for Vietnam such as: encouraging production and export; strengthening investment and consumption; maintaining financial policy and flexible currency...
Furthermore, Vietnamese and international economics specialists also discussed at the seminar. In the coming period, the UEB is planning to cooperate with Fulbright, STAR Vietnam to hold workshops on economic issues, education and social security...
