UEB cooperates with Dow Chemical Company in training and research

From May to November 2017, VNU University of Economics and Business cooperated with Dow Chemical Group from the US to implement a joint project to develop learning materials for the University. This is part of Dow's ongoing Leadership in Action project in Vietnam. The UEB has assigned the Faculty of Development Economics to take this project.
The Leadership in Action program helps to provide solutions to global problems in emerging markets by providing consultants/experts for local communities. The project includes supporting activities for education development, sustainable community development, food productivity and waste prevention, regeneration and access to water. 
Dow's representatives at the meeting with leaders of UEB During the working session on 12th September 2017, the project team visited the production of ceramics in Bat Trang commune, Gia Lam district, Hanoi to develop case studies. After that, the team visited two households producing Bat Trang pottery in Giang Cao village, Bat Trang commune. These are the pioneering families in using gas-fired kiln instead of coal-fired kiln in producing pottery. The team has actively explored and exchanged directly with the household and technical staff at the pottery/porcelain kiln.
Within the framework of the project, from September 11th to September 15th, a group of six experts from Dow came to work with the UEB to carry out the project. The main activities to be implemented include:
(i) Support for the development and completion of subjects related to green growth and natural resources and environment;(ii) Develop a syllabus for green growth and climate change subjects;
(iii) Revision of syllabus for sustainable development and environmental management subjects;
(iv) Develop case studies for subjects to enhance practicality in current courses.
During the first meeting on 11th September 2017 at the UEB, Dow's experts had a meeting with the Vice Rector - Dr. Nguyen Anh Thu, Dr. Nguyen Vu Ha - Deputy Head of Office of Research and Partnership Development, Dr. Nguyen Quoc Viet - Dean of the Faculty of Development Economics. At the meeting, leaders of the UEB and the Dow’s experts discussed details of the long-term strategic partnership between the two sides. In the afternoon of the same day, the experts together with members of the Faculty of Developments Economics divide into groups to carry out activities in the collaborative project.

From 13th to 15th September, faculty members from the Faculty of Development Economics continued to work with the Dow’s experts on revising and updating syllabus. The project is expected to be completed by November 2017.
