Management Practice in Vietnam: Lessons from Japan

On 5th November 2015, the Faculty of Business Administration, VNU University of Economics and Business (UEB) held the seminar under the theme of "Management Practice in Vietnam: Lessons from Japan".
The seminar opened the series of academic exchange activities taken place from 4 - 7th November 2015 between students of international standard program of the Faculty of Business Administration (VNU-UEB) headed by Dr. Nguyen Dang Minh and students from Osaka City University (Japan) headed by Prof. Masaharu Ota. These activities provided opportunities for students of the two universities to exchange knowledge and visit some Vietnamese businesses, including: Muong Thanh Hotel (Linh Dam Str., Hanoi); Tan Phat Equipment JSC. (Thanh Tri, Hanoi); Chu Dau Ceramics JSC. (Nam Sach, Hai Duong) etc.
To prepare for the field trips, students from the two universities had conducted many surveys and basic research on the organizational structure, business strategy as well as proposed several measures to improve the operation effectiveness of the enterprises. The students were divided into small groups to observe, take notes and learn during the seminar and the field trips.
In the seminar of 5th October morning, students from 12 groups presented their knowledge on the business of the enterprises, exchanged and added missing information to prepare for the field trips. The seminar gave chances for the students to learn from each others, exchange information through presentations and discussions on specialized knowledge. At the seminar, students from Osaka City University brought many interesting information about scientific achievements, research projects and famous management styles of Japan, namely lean management, PDCA and Kaizen etc.

The seminar left a profound impression to all participants. It not only brought valuable lessons for students of the two universities but also helped students get to know each other and prepare for various activities ahead.
