Those attending the ceremony were Ms Dang Thi Ngoc Lan, operation manager of VBLP of the World Bank Vietnam; AUSAID representatives; Ms Tran Thi Hong Hanh – General Secretary of the Vietnam Banking Association (VNBA); Ms Pham Bao Khanh - Deputy Director of Deposit Insurance of Vietnam (DIV); leaders of commercial banks – main beneficiaries of the project; heads of the VNU-UEB; lecturers from National University of Economics and Academy of Banking; banking and financial specialists and scholars in Vietnam and from other countries; domestic and foreign media agencies.

Following the Rector’s speech, Assoc. Prof. Dr Tran Thi Thanh Tu – Head of project consultative group, Associate Dean of Faculty of Finance and Banking – UEB, highlighted the 3 main components of the project: training, consultation and research.
Speaking at the ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Hong Son - the UEB rector emphasized the role of the Project in innovation of training methodology of Faculty of Finance and Banking in particular and the UEB in general: Combination among online training, interactive TV training and class training. The rector hopes that success of the project with 3 main components - training, consultation and research will not only benefit its learners - leaders of commercial banks in Vietnam, but also enhance the capacity of UEB’s lecturers in research, consultation and teaching.

The training component is designed in 3 modules for 5 days: online training, interactive TV training with foreign specialists and class training with UEB lecturers and senior specialists in the banking and financial area of Vietnam. Learners are granted with a free e-learning program via the web www.ueb.edu.vn and can select a class training course held by April 2015.
The second component of the project focuses on consulting a bank to improve corporate governance capacity, helping the bank to make a corporate governing plan in compliance with international standards. During the project implementation process, the Military Bank (MB) was selected to take part in the consultative component.
The third component is to improve research capacity of the UEB lecturers. Within the project scope and scale, one international workshop and two international articles will be realized by a UEB group of lecturers in cooperation with international specialists. This will contribute to enhance the lecturers’ research capacity in corporate governance, banking and finance.
The project is carried out in one year, from October 2014 to October 2015, with all three components implemented simultaneously.
The UEB hopes that the fulfillment of the project will open a forum for a network of researchers and regulators in the financial and banking area in Vietnam to share information, knowledge and experience.
