Participants of the Conference included scholars, professors, scientists from four main universities in East Asia, including Beijing University (China), Seoul National University (South Korea), Tokyo University (Japan) and Vietnam National University, Hanoi (Vietnam) together with leaders of the member universities directly under Vietnam National University, Hanoi. From the UEB, there were Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Hong Son, Rector, Dr. Nguyen Truc Le, Vice Recto and UEB’s lecturers. The Conference was co-chaired by Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Hong Son and Dr. Nguyen Quoc Viet, Associate Dean of Faculty of Development Economics.
In the first part of the Conference, representatives of 4 BESTOHA universities presented 6 presentations related to green growth and sustainable development. Two presentations of Seoul National University, South Korea were “Green growth strategy of Korea and green leadership education program of SNU” and “Appropriate technology and education in Kolkata, India”; The presentation of Beijing University, China on “International teaching exchange experiences in the design field”; The presentation about “Health in green growth” presented by Tokyo University, Japan and two presentations of Dr. Nguyen Quoc Viet and Dr. Nguyen Viet Thanh, Faculty of Development Economics, UEB about “Measuring green growth and sustainable development of Vietnam: The case of marine capture fisheries and measuring green growth of Vietnam”.
The presentations attracted much scholars and participants’ attention, especially the green leadership education Program of Seoul National University, South Korea. The UEB expressed the desire to cooperate with South Korea as well as two other members of BESETOHA universities in replicating this model at universities among the collaboration universities block.
The presentation of Beijing University also mentioned that international teaching and studying exchange activities was one of the cooperation activities which universities were very interested in and wished to enhance to promote research and training capacity for not only lecturers but also dynamic and active students. The presentation of Tokyo University referred to health in green growth which was also one of the indicators that Dr. Nguyen Quoc Viet and Dr. Nguyen Viet Thanh mentioned in their presentation about “Measuring green growth in Vietnam”. Additionally, the research group of UEB also emphasized the impacts of aquaculture and fishery exploitation in Vietnam on green growth as well as issues related to environment and climate change…
Discussing the training cooperation possibilities, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Hong Son proposed developing master programs, in which four major East Asian universities would use similar training programs (could be adjusted in accordance with the actual conditions in each country). BESETOHA students could choose exchange programs in three remaining countries. A new training program provided students with more international experiencing opportunities. Developing one monographic book on green growth was also the cooperation possibility that VNU-UEB set for scholars and partners.
Beside the training cooperation activities, cooperation in research was also under the discussion. VNU International School proposed building a Fund granted for conducting research and implementing projects on green growth, including the business plan of the staffs, lectures and students of BESETOHA. Tokyo University also mentioned that Japan had Funds to support research activities such as JSPS, not only for research projects in Japan but also for projects in collaboration with partners.
At the end of the Conference, the chairman emphasized that the meeting in particular and BESETOHA Forum in general would be a prerequisite for the exchange and cooperation activities in the future. BESETOHA would be the bridge among the member universities in order that the partnership cooperation among four major universities in East Asia was stronger and stronger.
