UEB’s lecturers to attend the Asia Pacific Financial Education Institute in Singapore

On September 16th - 17th, 2019, the Asia Pacific Financial Education Institute was held in Singapore Management University (SMU).


The Asia Pacific Financial Institute was modelled after the Cherry Blossom Financial Education Institute by The Global Financial Literacy Exellence Center (GFLEC) – George Washington University (USA).

GFLEC is considered to be one of the world’s leading centres for measuring financial literacy, developing financial education programs and publishing industry-leading research on personal finance in the US and around the world. Prof. Annamaria Lursadi - GFLEC’s Founder and Academic Director is the world’s leading expert on financial and personal finance education. She has taught at many famous universities including Princeton University, University of Chicago, Columbia University, and is a policy advisor on financial education for many countries around the world.

Every April, GFLEC will hold a seminar for leading researchers in the field of personal finance, financial education all around the world to discuss the latest policy issues and personal finance research.

The Asia Pacific Financial Institute is a joint initiative by Sim Kee Boon Institute for Financial Economics, Singapore Management University, and the GFLEC of George Washington University (USA). It is a forum for presentation and discussion of financial education research. Research papers presented were carefully selected and only about 50 people participated by invitations only.

The event lasted 2 days with the first day of presentations and discussions of academic papers on personal finance and financial education. On the second day, participants discussed issues related to financial education policy and promoted the development of financial knowledge in Asian countries.

Dr. Dinh Thi Thanh Van’s presentation with the topic of Fintech (financial technology) in financial inclusion and financial education experience in Vietnam was selected to present and received the attention of speakers and guests of the event. Particularly, presentations related to the combination of financial education of Vietnam Financial Literacy Network at VNU University of Economics & Business with some fintech companies in Vietnam such as Finhay, Money Lover, etc. or the development of board games received many questions from the guests. This is an opportunity for UEB lecturers to share their experiences in financial education, the reality of personal finance education in Vietnam and learn from experience of the world's leading experts in the field of personal finance.
