Scholars from US and UK held the summer course for UEB’s students

Dr. Jenny Tue Anh, who is a young scientist, received doctoral degree from Harvard University, USA
To create the opportunities of academic exchange and broaden knowledge as well as research methodology for UEB’s students, UEB’s Youth Union in collaboration with a group of young Vietnamese PhDs who are studying and working in the UK and the US to hold the summer course for the students.


The course took place from 22nd to 25th July 2019, with the topic “Modern Economics for Policy Recommendations: Let the Data Speak” to help students improve knowledge and research methods of economics. The group has 4 members including Dr. Jenny Nguyen Tue Anh, MSc. Katherina Huong Nguyen, Dr. Vuong Phan Tuan (Greenwich University) and Chau Thanh Vu- doctoral student at Harvard University.

Giving the opening speech of the course, Dr. Tue Anh emphasized: This summer course is designed for economics students and has been taught in a number of countries such as the US, Italia etc. We believe that with the comprehensive knowledge base and English skills of UEB’s students, our course will achieve success. All profits from the course, our group and UEB’s Youth Union - Student Association will give to the disadvantaged patients at the Vietnam National Hospital of Pediatrics, therefore this course is also a course for community.

 Dr. Jenny Tue Anh: research expert at Oxford University, a visiting postdoctoral fellow at Centre for International Development, Harvard University; obtaining her PhD and MA at University of Greenwich with full Vice Chancellor’s scholarships; receiving the award for “Best Postgraduate Dissertation” and “ Student of the Year” at the University.PhD student Chau Thanh Vu: PhD Graduate Student in Economics, Harvard University, has been involved in research at many organizations around the world such as South African Reserve Bank and Thailand Development Research Institute.
  
 Expert Katherina Huong Nguyen: 7 years of experience in Data Visualization, graduated from Stanford University, has consulted for businesses in the Silicone Valley, USA, now is expert in analyzing data modeling at Harvard University. Dr. Vuong Phan Tuan: Lecturer in Machine Learning, Greenwich University; Silver Medal of International Olympiad in Informatics; Software development expert of Microsoft Corporation, US; Prince of Wales Innovation Scholarship.
 
General information about the VSSR summer course
Vietnam Summer School in Research (VSSR) is an annual summer course founded by Ms. Nguyen Tue Anh and Mr. Chau Thanh Vu - two young Vietnamese doctors studying and working at Harvard University, US. The purpose of the project is to bring knowledge and research methods at university or higher level to students and research specialists. The topic of each year will focus on different disciplines and areas, from macro knowledge to specific applications in economic management, to model theories applied to social science, etc.
