Training Course for lecturers in Corporate Governance in Banking with IFC experts

On 5th November 2015, on basis of the cooperation agreement between the VNU University of Economics and Business (UEB) and the International Finance Corporation (IFC) of the World Bank, the training course on "Corporate Governance in Banks" was held at the Hilton Hotel.



Attending the opening ceremony of the course, there were Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Hong Son - Rector of the UEB, Mr. Kyle F. Kelhofer - Regional Director of IFC and Mr. Roman Windish - Representatives of the Swiss Development Agency, sponsor of the program.

Teaching at the course were senior experts of the IFC in Vietnam, Singapore and the United States, who had a lot of experiences in consulting and research and had held key positions in international financial corporations. Students of the course were lecturers and experts from the VNU University of Economics and Business, Institute of Development Policy and Management, National Economics University, the State Bank, the Deposit Insurance of Vietnam, the National Financial Supervision Commission, Hanoi Stock Exchange. The objective of the course is to train lecturers for short-term training courses on corporate governance in banks held by IFC and the UEB.

Taking about the decision to choose partner being a public university in Vietnam, Ms. Nguyet Anh - Senior expert of IFC said: "VNU University of Economics and Business is a research-oriented university which hosts many strong research teams, especially in the field of banking and finance. The University has also involved in many consulting projects and research in the field of banking and finance as well as successfully implemented the project "Enhancing capacity of corporate governance for banking leaders in Vietnam" sponsored by the World Bank. These were the decisive factors for IFC to choose the UEB as partner to sign the cooperation agreement." Within the framework of the cooperation agreement, after the course, two other short-term training courses for banking leaders and one international conference on corporate governance in banks will be held in 2016.


Cooperation between the UEB and IFC opened a new development path for research and consulting activities in the field of banking and finance, promising to improve the capacity of lecturers and staffs of the University to meet the demands of the new period.
