18,000$ scholarship exclusively for students of Development Economics

From the academic year 2020-2021, McGill University and Québec University (Canada) will grant the research scholarships for students of Faculty of Development Economics, VNU University of Economics and Business (UEB) with a total value of 18,000 USD in 3 years (2020-2022). The scholarship will be awarded directly to senior-year students with the best graduate thesis.

Since the academic year of 2020 - 2021, the Faculty of Development Economics encourages senior-year students to choose the graduation thesis instead of studying the transferred modules. This is aimed at ensuring the graduates from the UEB will "best fit the requirements of the employers", and providing scholarships for students who have the best graduate thesis.

In order to carry out the final thesis, senior-year students of the Faculty of Development Economics can choose research directions related to economic data and policy analysis; public policy and development; resource management and environment; real estate economy; tourism economy and service. Other research directions which contribute positively to the cause of socio-economic development, environmental protection, community development etc., are encouraged. Students are also encouraged to develop their annual thesis topic into a graduation thesis topic.

Assoc.Prof.PhD. Nguyen An Thinh, Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Development, said: “In fact, students who have completed the third year of study only know the theoretical knowledge, they do not have enough skills to practice data analysis; they also lack of inductive and interpretative thinking skills to solve a specific problem; they don't have skills to collect, process data and write a complete research report. A number of students who do not choose graduation thesis, do not have enough practical skills, they must rely on the training of employers, thus reducing the active role in seeking opportunities”. Students who choose to do the graduation thesis have very good skills, better results than converting subjects. Some of them are successful when graduating, typically Ms. Luong Thi Tuyen (QH-2010-E) has been granted a full doctoral scholarship at Newcastle University, Australia; Ms. Nguyen Thi Duy Linh (QH-2013-E) has been granted a full master scholarship in Poland. Ms. Linh shared her experience: “It takes only one semester to do the thesis, but the benefits are more than three and a half years of previous study combined because you have the opportunity to practice the theoretical knowledge you have learned. The thesis time is the most memorable and an unforgettable experience in student life”.
