17 August 2012, the UEB’s Faculty of Development Economics has organized a seminar under the theme “Economics growth and social justice in Vietnam in 1986-2010”, which is within the VNU level research project implemented by Dr. Bui Dai Dzung during the last 2 years.

The conference has the presence specialists of public policy and economics from research institutes and Management Board of the UEB’s Faculty of Development Economics.
Openning the seminar, Dr. Vu Quoc Huy - Dean of the Faculty has emphasized that the seminar would be expected to listen to Dr. Bui Dai Dung’s research report as well as receive useful suggestions and discussion to open futher research.
Dr. Bui Dai Dung has presented the summary of the study content. In particular, the study sets out theoretical and practical basis of the relationship between social development and ocial justice, the reality of income growth and inequality in Vietnam between 1986 and 2010, recommending the distribution adjustment to ensure sustainable development. The study has drawn the conclusion: true social justice is the fairness of development. The fairness of development whish has a positive impact on sustainable development should pay attention to three specific groups: the poor, the middle class and the super rich.
Discussing at the seminar, the delegates have agreed that the subject has been thoroughly carried out, modern research methods, accurate and reliable information. Although economic growth and social justice is not a new issue, it raises many concerns for most of the countries, including Vietnam. However, during the analysis process, research can not ignore the institutional factors because of its crucial position to social growth and justice.
As quoted Assoc.Prof.Dr. Tran Van Tung (Institute of African and Middle East Studies): The study has provided with several points of view on social institution and justice; however, there should be more clarified conclusions. The authors have presented detailed analysis on the issues of income and inequality, which can be reliable while comparing previous studies. The study, however, should further analyze the conditions between Vietnam and other equal countries as well as the democratic element”.
Following the ideas contributed to the study, the economists Luu Bich Ho has made comments in the use and exploitation of data sources, while suggesting that the authors should continue to have further study on this topic. Currently, the subject had credible research methods and concise reports. In addition, the study also received many valuable suggestions of specialists such as Dr. Pham Xuan Dai (Institute of Sociology), Dr. Nguyen Vi Khair (Vietnam Institute of Development Studies), Dr. Pham Quynh Anh (Faculty member of the Faculty of Development Economics)...
After half a day of hard work, the seminar has wraped up with many valuable ideas contritbuting to the study. Closing the seminar, Dr. Vu Quoc Huy has congratulated the author - Dr. Bui Dai Dung for his research results as well as thank the particiapants for their ideas. These precious contributions would not only help improve the research content but also open further research direction in the future.
