Improving international research capacity

From 16th to 20th January 2019, University of Economics and Busineess organized a short course "Improving international research capacity".

The course was designed to provide graduate students with scientific research methods and orientations. Teaching at the course, there were famous scientists / lecturers, such as Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Truc Le, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Tran Xuan Bach, Associate Prof. Dr. Hoang Van Hai, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ha Van Hoi, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Tran Duc Hiep , TS. Dinh Thi Thanh Van, Dr. Hoang Khac Lich, Dr. Tran Quang Tuyen ... who had many experiences of operation in the field of international research and instructed many graduate students.

In the course, each lecturer chose a special subject to present to the graduate student. Assoc.Prof.Dr. Hoang Van Hai said that the doctoral students who focused on identifying the topic and naming the topic exactly would achieve 50% successful. He especially emphasized that doctoral students were people who must be creative, absolutely did not copy anything except statistics.

Dr. Dinh Thi Thanh Van specifically emphasizes the characteristics of a good topic which must have a limited scope, new and unique features, completely problem solving and a close and easy-to-understand presentation. She said that the research topic must have a specific limitation in order to avoid being spread and focus on the problem. The important thing was that the problem must be solved, not just outlined and gave general solutions.

Assoc.Prof.Dr. Tran Xuan Bach also evaluated that this was very useful course held when the students were about to go to the process of self-study. He also said that the course was a difference in the training of doctoral students of UEB because currently there were not many universities that could organize short-term courses.

After the presentation of 8 lecturers, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Truc Le asked doctoral students who were studying at UEB to not only research well but also to teach well for both students and graduate students. UEB would arrange doctoral students to be teaching assistants in UEB. He said that from the perspectives of the lecturer, the doctoral students would easily discover the unresolved scientific problems and have more motivation to continue to solve scientific problems.

Ending the course, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Truc Le - UEB’s Rector gave certificates of completion to 21 doctoral students which demonstrated the success of the course. The course might be held regularly.
