Seminar: Policy toolbox for executives

On 17th April 2017, VNU University of Economics and Business held the seminar on “Policy toolbox for executives to assess macroeconomic risks in an uncertain global economy” with presentation of Prof. Paul Baker - economist-statistician of European Commission, lecturer of University of Barcelona, Spain.


Present at the seminar were Dr. Nguyen Anh Thu - Vice Rector, lecturers and students of the UEB.

At the seminar, Prof. Paul Baker introduced about the indicators and data that can be used to determine shifts as well as forecast and make predictions. His presentation focused particularly on three critical areas: the drivers of global business conditions, methodologies for assessing and anticipating risks and formulating a strategy and delivering on its execution.

In the first part of the presentation, Prof. Paul Baker described how changes in the global economy or in a specific national economy might impact businesses. Businesses might take advantage of emerging opportunities and mitigating political and economic risk. Then, he focus on building a dashboard of indicators from social, political or macro-risks - focusing on trade. Finally, it is about how to adapt strategy to changing currency policies, exchange rates, and trade policies as well as how to identify and influence the adoption of policies that will improve business conditions.

The seminar gave UEB’s lecturers and students a quick look at the policy toolbox for executives as a tool combining theoretical research with real businesses. At the end of the seminar, Dr. Nguyen Anh Thu sent a warm thanks to Prof. Paul Baker and expected to foster the collaboration with him in the future.
