Orientation for research activities serving economic and social development in the period 2016 - 2020

To provide major orientations for research activities of the university in the next 5 years as well as to contribute to economic and social development of the country, with the aim of becoming research-oriented university, VNU University of Economics and Business (UEB) is promoting the construction of research list for the period of 2016-2020.



This is also the basis for directing researches on economic and social development of the University, promoting further publications of the research groups, concentrating more on the key researches and attracting more research projects from domestic and foreign organizations.

"The list of research projects serving economic and social development in the period 2016 - 2020" proposed by the faculties, institutes and centers of the University will cover the most urgent topics important for economic and social development of our country in the current context and the next 5 years. Each topic will include several specific, prominent and important themes.

To prepare the list of the research projects as well as promote research capacity for staff and lecturers of the University, the UEB has organized thematic curriculum on research methodology and series of seminars on social and economic issues with leading speakers and experts.

In the thematic curriculum, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Thi Minh and Dr. Nguyen Manh The (Dean and Vice Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Economics, National Economics University) were involved in teaching the courses on database preparation, statistical methods, basic and advanced quantitative methods with solfwares, such as Eview, STATA and SPSS. The course attracted participation from many lecturers, staffs and PhD students of the UEB.

The series of seminars on economic and social issues opened with discussions from Dr. Vo Tri Thanh - Former Deputy Director of the Central Institute for Economic Management, leading expert in macroeconomics on "International economic integration and Vietnam toward 2035". At the seminar, some problems of the world and Vietnamese economy were discussed, such as: exchange rates, monetary policy, international integration and economic forecast in 2016.

Dr. Bui Tat Thang - Director of the Development Strategy Institute, Ministry of Planning and Investment discussed the topics of “Some issues should continue to be studied in the period up to 2020", which stated the current context and development trend of the world, viewpoints, orientations and resolution for economic and social development of Vietnam in the coming period.

"Some issues in development of financial markets in Vietnam in the coming period" is the topics discussed by Dr. Can Van Luc - Deputy Director of BIDV, Director of BIDV Training School. During the discussion, Dr. Can Van Luc emphasized the situation of global economy and finance in 2015-2016, trend of the global financial markets, current situation of Vietnamese financial market and suggested some topics for research in this field.

The series of seminars continues with presentation of VNU and UEB’s experts. Especially, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Vu Van Tich – Director of Science and Technology Department, Vietnam National University, Hanoi presented the topics of development of scientific research in research-oriented university as a way to improve the financial resources for the university.

Speaking at the program, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Hong Son - Rector of the UEB emphasized the importance of practical training courses/seminars in enhancing research capacity of the units in general and lecturers in particular. He also stressed that VNU’s development orientation in direction of multi-disciplinary and multi-sector was entirely proper and comfort with the needs of social and economic development of the country.

Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Hong Son also thanked VNU for funding this series of training courses and seminars and leading experts for teaching the courses. Rector of the UEB said that the program provided valuable platform to enhance capacity and direct research orientation for staff and lecturers of the University in the coming period.
