On 20th September 2007, VNU ’s University of Economics and Business solemnly organized the ceremony to announce the Decision by the Prime Minister on Establishing the University of Economics and Business and the opening Ceremony for New Academic year 2007 - 2008 at the Conference Hall 10-12, VNU Headquarter Building.
Participating in the ceremony were Prof. Tran Van Nhung, Deputy Minister, Ministry of Education and Training; VNU’s Vice-Presidents; leaders from VNU's office, functional departments, training units; the college’s staff and students.
Prof. Tran Van Nhung handed Assoc. Prof. Phung Xuan Nha, the first rector of UEB the Prime Minister’s Decision on the establishment of the university and MOET’s Decision on the appointment of Prof. Phung Xuan Nha as Rector. Prof. Mai Trong Nhuan also handed VNU’s President’s Decision on the appointment of Assoc. Prof. Nguyen Hong Son, Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Thanh and Dr. Tran Anh Tai as vice-rectors.
The University of Economics and Business was established on the basis of the Faculty of Economics according to the Decision No 290/QD - TTg signed by Primister on March 06, 2007. The University of Economics and Business’ important missions are to produce highly quality human resources in policy analysis and economical management, enterprise management; trasfer research results and provide high quality consulting services on economical policy, management and business adminstration for the Government and enterprises.
In the farmework of the ceremony, Assoc.Prof. Phung Xuan Nha signed MOU with leaders of corporations, enterprises from Hong Kong, USA and Vietnam. At the ceremony, 28 excellent students were awarded scholarships by Sai Gon Joint Stock Company, Hong Kong Branch Investment Newspaper and Nomura Corporation.
