On June 27, 2023, the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) company announced its World University Rankings (WUR) 2024, in which VNU maintained its position within the top 1000 of the world’s best higher education institutions.

In detail, the QS ranking encompassed a total of 1,499 higher education institutions, among which 83 institutions received their first ranking. The ranking process involved the participation of 2,963 higher education institutions from 104 countries and territories.VNU garnered significant recognition in this ranking, especially in terms of employer evaluation, where it received high scores in the Employer Reputation and Recruitment Results criteria. Notably, the Employer Reputation criteria have witnessed an increase of 62 places to the 439th rank. In addition, all 5 higher education institutions that were ranked in the previous period maintained their rankings, within which both VNU campuses continued to stay in the top 1000.
 
Ranking position of 02 Vietnam National Universities in QS WUR 2024

This year celebrates the 20th anniversary since the initial release of the QS rankings. This milestone has witnessed a significant adjustment in the evaluation criteria, involving the addition of 3 new criteria and the modification of the weight assigned to 3 out of the existing 6 criteria. The revised set of 9 criteria continues to include the assessment of academic performance and employability while introducing a new criterion to evaluate the sustainable development capabilities of higher education institutions. Additionally, post-graduate employability and global connectedness in scientific research are now included as additional criteria within the ranking framework.

In Southeast Asia, 64 higher education institutions were ranked, in which Malaysia was the Southeast Asian country with the most ranked institutions (28), followed by Indonesia (26), Thailand (13), Vietnam (05), Philippines (05), Singapore (04), and Brunei (02). Although Singapore only has 4 ranked institutions, it still shows its competitiveness with 2 universities in the top 30 (National University of Singapore ranking 8th and Nanyang Technological University ranking 26th).

The majority of the top positions in the rankings are still held by universities from the United Kingdom and the United States, with each country having four educational institutions in the top 10. Notably, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) retains its No. 1 position for the 11th consecutive year, while the University of Cambridge maintains its rank at 2nd place.

VNU has successfully maintained its position in key fields, with a total of six areas continuing to be ranked. 2 majors at VNU are considered Engineering & Technology and Natural Sciences, with Natural Sciences securing 1st in Vietnam alongside 2 other fields Physics and Astronomy and Business and Science Management Studies. Furthermore, Computer Science major was placed in the top 501-550, while Mathematics was placed in the top 351-400.

On the other hand, in the June 2023 edition of Times Higher Education (THE) Rankings, VNU achieves a notably higher ranking. VNU is now in the group of 401-600 in the world, with Quality Education ranking jumped to 70th (5th in Southeast Asia and 1st in Vietnam).

Early this February, Cybermetrics Lab, a division of the Spanish National Research Council, also released its first ranking for 2023. Their Webometrics ranking system assesses the digital transformation capabilities and excellence of higher education institutions worldwide based on their international publications indexed in Scopus and Google Scholar. According to these rankings, VNU experienced a significant improvement, climbing 97 places compared to the previous results announced in August 2022. VNU’s global ranking rose from 758 to 661, while maintaining its position as the top-ranking university in Vietnam.

The University of Economics and Business (UEB) takes great pride in being a prominent member and a significant contributor to VNU, reinforcing VNU's esteemed standing in the field of Business and Management Science, ranking within the top 501-550. Furthermore, the management of the Business and Economics field at the University played a pivotal role in elevating VNU's position to the top 501-600 in the THE rankings, making it the first university in Vietnam to achieve this milestone.
