On November 11, 2020, VNU University of Economics and Business (UEB) held a formal opening ceremony of 2020 –2021 school year at Nguyen Van Dao Hall, 144 Xuan Thuy - Cau Giay - Hanoi.
Attending the ceremony were Mr Wojciech Gerwell - Poland Ambassador in Vietnam, Mr. Tran Duc Phan - Deputy Director General of Vietnam Sports Administration, Mr. Tran Van Le - Director of Phuong Linh Trading and Electrical engineering production company, Ms. Vu Le Huong - Director of Education Development, Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, Ms. Nguyen Quynh Mai - Deputy Director of Cen Land, Mr. Nguyen Huynh Hoang - Chairman of the Board of Management/Director General of BMSGROUP Global. Representatives of The Association of Former Students of the University of Economics and Business included M.S. Le Tu Minh - Chairman of The Association of Former Students and IMG Group, M.S. Le Duy Anh - Vice President of The Association of Former Students, CEO of Xuan Hoa Viet Nam JSC. Besides, a large number of guests as representatives of the member units of the VNU, partners of the University of Economics and Business also attended the ceremony and sent their congratulations to UEB.
Leaders of the UEB attended the ceremony included Assoc.Prof.PhD. Nguyen Truc Le - Rector, the Vice Rectors, Assoc.Prof.PhD. Nguyen Anh Thu, Assoc.Prof.PhD. Nguyen Manh Tuan, PhD. Pham Minh Tuan together with heads of units and a large number of staff and students of the UEB.
In his welcome speech, Assoc.Prof.PhD. Nguyen Truc Le highlighted the school’s achievements in the past year in areas: training, internationalization, research and social responsibility. He said, “Thanks to you and your family for having faith in VNU University of Economics and Business. No one but you who will coordinate the school brand. We will together create the opportunity, make a difference, and assist you in reaching the peak of human intelligence. You will be those who are independent and have comprehensive and specialized study methods, have not only passion for knowledge and creativity but also strong will, courage, and determination. Besides, you also learn to show empathy and give your peers a hand, support each other in both personal and academic life as well.
In the run-up to the new school year, teachers and students of the University of Economics and Business committed to carry out the annual school tasks that contribute to the creation and development of a national university education, cloning and enlightenment, writing the history of the next generation of scholars, taking steps forward and willing to serve our country.”
Following the opening speech, Assoc.Prof.PhD. Nguyen Truc Le beated the drum to officially open the 2020-2021 school year in an exciting atmosphere of the delegates and students.
At the opening ceremony, Mr. Wojciech Gerwell, Polish Ambassador in Vietnam, had motivate speech to UEB's freshers. He said he had gone through a period from high school to college - a completely independent life with many ups and downs, but he knew how to arrange time and adapt to many changes. He hoped students of the University of Economics and Business, especially freshmen to be confident, and willingly to learn and acquire knowledge, as well as pursue their dreams.
At the ceremony, the University of Economics and Business awarded the IMG scholarships to three students with high academic performance, grant scholarships to six disadvantaged students and six students with highest scores in the national entrance exam 2020. Also, certificates and rewards were given for six students with high academic performance, six class leaders with good academic performance, and six disadvantaged students.
In particular, three scholarships worth VND 150,000,000 awarded to three talented students:
1st prize: Student Nguyen Thi Hong, QH-2018-E, Department of Accounting and Auditing; Value: VND 100,000,000.
2nd prize: Student Nguyen Huu Truong, QH-2018-E, Faculty of International Business and Economics; Value: VND 40,000,000.
3rd prize: Student Nguyen Thu Ninh, QH-2017-E, Institute of Business Administration. Value: VND 10,000,000.
This scholarship was from the Nurturing Vietnamese Talent Scholarships of IMG Investment Corporation, which was founded by Dr. Le Tu Minh - Former student of K23 UEB, Chairman of the Board of Management of the IMG Investment Joint Stock Corporation. This scholarship has been awarded annually to UEB students since 2014.
At the opening ceremony, The Association of Former Students, with the community spirit, raised and donated VND 54,000,000 to support 36 students of the school affected by floods in Central Vietnam. Besides, The Association of Former Students also handed scholarships to six disadvantaged students.
On behalf of domestic partners, Mr. Tran Van Le, Director of Phuong Linh Trading and Electrical engineering production company, had a speech at the opening ceremony. “Success I’ve gained today is not from any pure luck but mainly from learning. With responsibility and passion for learning, my business and I will be accompanying the school in student training activities” he stated.
At the opening ceremony, partners of VNU University of Economics and Business awarded students scholarships worth more than VND 1,552,000,000 in total.
On behalf of UEB students, Nguyen Quoc Anh, a student from the Faculty of International Business and Economics, expressed his thoughts and feelings at the event: It’s my honor to be a student of the VNU University of Economics and Business - a prestigious university whose brand has been established for many years. Even at today's opening ceremony, I could point out the difference between our university and the others. That the determination and care of teachers, the company's partnership gave us even more love and motivation. I promise to study, practice, and practice hard to assert myself, and to prepare well for my future career path so that I will not betray our teachers for their efforts as well as their faith placed on me!
