Discussion on Japan's role in the development of Mekong Sub-region

On 23rd August 2010, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Hong Son, Vice Rector of University of Economics and Business - VNU had a meeting with a delegation of many professors, doctors from Japanese organizations and universities.


Leading of the delegation was Prof. Kiyokatsu Nishiguchi - Ritsumeikan University. There were also Prof. Kenichi Nakagami, Prof. Masashi Nagasu, Prof. Koyama Masashisa and other members attending to the meeting.

After the introduction, participants discussed about Japan’s role in the development of the Mekong Sub-region.

To begin with, Dr. Nakagami discussed on "Innovation and cooperation for a sustainable society in Mekong Region." Regarding to this subject, participants ebulliently discussed around the issues such as Japan's strategy for a sustainable social development, the Japanese perspective on the development of the Greater Mekong Region. Focusing his attention to the subject, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Hong Son raised many questions and shared more information about Vietnam, which emphasized on the activities for developing Greater Mekong Sub-region countries.

 

Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Hong Son also appreciated for the cooperation in economy and environment between Vietnam and Japan, including projects related to the Mekong Sub-region in Vietnam.

After that, Prof. Nobuyoshi from School of Economics, Kinki University has participated with the subject "The Development of the Mekong Region countries and Japan." The theme has drew remarkable attention when addressing to the integration issues in East Asia, the development of the Mekong Region regarding to Japan and China.

Through the topic, Prof. Nobuyoshi also provided case-studies for Myanmar and Vietnam. In concern of this topic, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Hong Son has made many interesting questions, which emphasized the influence of China on the Mekong River and its consequences for the regional countries.

The discussion has finished successfully. Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Hong Son sincerely appreciated the concern of the Japanese delegation to the University of Economics and Business - VNU, and also hoped for a long term co-operation between  University of Economics and Business - VNU and Japanese universities.
