11. Summary of the new findings of the thesis

- First, theoretically, the thesis systematizes the rationale of foreign direct investment and factors affecting foreign direct investment.

- Second, practically, based on the rationale of foreign direct investment, the thesis analyzes affecting factors that promote Vietnam’s outward foreign direct investment and presents policy implications to the government of Vietnam to promote the capital flow of Vietnam’s outward foreign direct investment.

12. Practical applicability:

The thesis serves as a useful reference material for macro-management agencies in planning Vietnam’s outward foreign direct investment policies, as well as enhances Vietnam enterprises’ awareness of the impact of macro-factors on outward foreign direct investment activities in order to figure out appropriate business strategies for enterprises.

13. Further research directions

- Quantifying the relations among other outward foreign direct investment promoting factors which are: Vietnam’s trade and investment agreements, the government policies (taxes), production costs (wage costs for labor), business conditions (the national technology development) and pulling factors in invested countries.

- Studying outward foreign direct investment promoting factors from micro-perspective (enterprise).

- Quantifying outward foreign direct investment promoting factors for each investment field of Vietnam: industry, agriculture, service.
