VN-Index shoots straight up just before session-end on June 19
The VN-Index surged 1.55 percent to 868.56 points Friday, shooting up 0.55 percent just before the bourse closes as a flurry of buy orders were executed. The VN-Index rose 13.29 points over the course of the day, but its final 5 points came in the final 15 minutes of trading, when at-the-close (ATC) orders of over 3 million shares were executed. Nearly 1.7 million of these were put-through buy orders of VIC, which belongs to private conglomerate Vingroup, the largest capped stock on HoSE. VIC closed at VND97,300 ($4.2) per share, which means the transactions were worth around VND165.41 billion ($7.09 million).

$84 mln World Bank credit bolsters Vietnam’s climate change fight
The World Bank has approved a $84.4 million loan for Vietnam to promote a climate resilient landscape, including green transportation and energy systems. The loan will fund the government’s ongoing five-year (2016-2020) climate change response program. A World Bank release Friday said that the loan aims at increased protection of water sources and improving water use efficiency. It will also help improve climate smart landscape planning, particularly for forests and the Mekong Delta and support policy changes to reduce vehicle emissions through more stringent standards.

Stocks ended Friday’s session on a mixed note, as rising coronavirus cases in key U.S. states momentarily outweighed optimism about a quick economic rebound, which doused an early rally.
Investors were unsettled by news that Apple (AAPL) would temporarily shutter stores again in U.S. states where COVID-19 cases have been spiking in recent weeks, undercutting the market’s optimism about a rapid recovery. The company confirmed the move to Yahoo Finance via an emailed statement saying that the company is closing its retail stores beginning June 20 out of an abundance of caution.
