Book: Recent
Technologies for Disaster Management and Risk Reduction sustainable Community
Resilience & Responses
The Book,
co-edited by Dr. Praveen Kumar Rai, Dr. Prafull Singh, and Dr. Varun Narayan
Mishra and published by Springer Publisher, also mentions modern technology in
disaster management and risk reduction. It focuses on the recent technology
development in studying disasters through computational techniques with
geo-informatics and Earth database to manage, adapt and mitigate natural

Assoc.Prof.Dr.
Nguyen An Thinh is the author of the Chapter of The Geography of Climate Change
Adaptation in the Vietnam Northern Mountains: A Quantitative Analysis for
Intentions of Indigenous Ethnic Minorities Using Structural Equation Modeling
(SEM) and Protection Motivation Theory (PMT)
The Chapter
talks about results of applied research combined with SEM and PMT to the
intention of the community in climate change adaptation in Van Chan District,
Yen Bai Province. The questionnaire was carried out with 243 inhabitants under
topics: risk awareness, trust, subjective norm, adaptive assessment, production
habits and adaptive intention. 500 samples of bootstrap were selected at random
to calculate coefficients and standard errors. Structural models of climate
change adaptation intentions for the district level and 4 ethnic communities of
Kinh, Thai, Tay, and Mong were built.
The study result suggests that these communities are more concerned with the effectiveness of adaptation actions to improve resilience after disasters. The intention does not depend much on the perceived risks of climate change impacts. Analysis of multi-group structure shows the different results among ethnic groups
